Every year or so, Andy Grammer comes along with a massive radio or streaming hit. 2019 is no exception. His contribution to the Five Feet Apart soundtrack, “Don’t Give Up On Me,” racked up more than 85 million Spotify streams and was recently certified gold. He could have another smash on his hands with the deceptively-titled “Wish You Pain.” Yes, believe it or not, it’s a love song. “I hope you question whether you ever really had a chance at all,” he sings in the opening verse. “I hope your fear is thick like poison that gets into your blood.”

There’s a reason for all this ill will, however. “I love you more than you could know and your heart, it grows every time it breaks,” Andy belts on the chorus. “I know that it might sound strange, but I wish you pain.” Maybe I should let the singer/songwriter explain. “My hope is that this song helps reframe pain for so many who are struggling right now,” he says. “I want anyone in pain to know that it gets better; and not only that, you are developing strength in areas you can’t even understand yet.”

“I am beyond inspired by the heroes among us,” Andy continues. “I have heard people in all walks of life who have been dealt seemingly terrible hands speak brilliantly and eloquently about the people they have become.” Talk about tough love. “Wish You Pain” is the latest single from the hitmaker’s Naive LP.
