From “Breakeven” to “Superheroes,” Irish rockers The Script have been churning out hits for the last decade. The trio could add to that tally with new single, “The Last Time.” A throwback to the anthemic stadium-rock of Science & Faith and No Sound Without Silence, the lead single from their upcoming 6th LP is a bruised and battered breakup song. “Why’s it so hard to look me in the eye? Playing with that cross that’s on your chain,” frontman Danny O’Donoghue begins the song. “I know you only ever bite your lip when it’s something you’re afraid to say.”

That takes us to the emotional pre-chorus. “Is this the last time that I lay my eyes upon you? Is this the last time that I ever watch you leave?” The finality of the situation finally starts to dawn on him on the chorus. “We said that it would last, but how come it’s the last time?” It’s relatable and instantly catchy. “This song is about the intense feelings you experience when you realize you may be seeing the one you love …. for the last time,” explains Danny.
