Interview: Carly Rae Talks 'Dedicated'
We speak to Carly Rae Jepsen about her impeccable new album, 'Dedicated.'

Pop stars usually opt to cover a rap or indie song when they drop by the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge or Spotify Studios in a (misguided) bid to show a little edge. Carly Rae Jepsen bucks the trend, however, by going with a ’90s classic. Yes, the Dedicated diva channels her inner Gwen Stefani by belting out a faithful rendition of No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak.” Her version, recorded at the Spotify Studios in NYC, is not only note perfect, but also brimming with the angst and frustration of the original.

In addition to covering No Doubt, Carly Rae also sang her current single “Want You In My Room.” There’s a pretty good argument for the Jack Antonoff-produced bop being the final release from Dedicated, but there’s no need to despair. Canada’s pop queen has already announced a Side B-type album. “I have every intention of doing that and releasing a part two,” she told us earlier this year. “I think that’s the fun with having this much time to record an album. It gives you a little bit of perspective on what should come first and what should come second.”
