Cigarettes After Sex’s “Falling In Love” Is A Drowsy Lullaby

It took a minute for the world to wake up to the genius of Cigarettes After Sex, but the band’s self-titled debut LP eventually caught fire on Spotify — racking up a whopping 360 million streams. The trio recently introduced their sophomore LP, Cry, with the accurately-titled “Heavenly” and now follow it up with an even dreamier song called “Falling In Love.” It turns out, the drowsy lullaby inadvertently captured the emotion of a relationship frontman Greg Gonzalez did not have when he started writing it. I’ll let him explain.

“I think there’s something cosmic about this one,” Greg reveals. “I wrote the music before our relationship started. I wasn’t in love at all then, I was just writing about love and what it’d be like to be in love again. Two years later I actually fell in love again, and that’s what it took to finish the song.” The lyrics, which were added later, document their long-distance relationship. “The second verse is about how we would go see the same movie at the same time like it was a date, even though we were living in separate cities,” he adds.
