Ben Platt Switches It Up With 'Rain'
There's more to the breakout star than ballads as the upbeat 'Rain' proves.

Ben Platt is nothing if not prolific. In the space of a year, he has released his debut album (the winning Sing To Me Instead), conquered dance-pop on stand-alone single “Rain,” starred in The Politician and dropped an EP of songs from said Netflix series. The four-track set, which arrives today (October 22), includes covers of Joni Mitchell’s “River” and Billy Joel’s “Vienna” as well as a duet version of Stephen Sondheim’s “Unworthy Of Your Love.” Performed with co-star Zoey Deutch, no less.

The EP is rounded out with Ben’s own “Run Away,” one of the many great songs on Sing To Me Instead. It’s hard to pick a highlight, but the 26-year-old’s affinity for Broadway really comes through on his interpretation of “Unworthy Of Your Love.” In fact, the Dear Evan Hansen star might want to consider releasing an entire Sondheim-themed album at some point. (I would love to hear his take on “Not A Day Goes By” and “No One Is Alone”). Stream Music From The Netflix Original Series The Politician below.
