Album Review: Taylor Swift's 'Lover'
Taylor returns to the wide-eyed optimism of her early material on new LP, 'Lover.'

Taylor Swift has teamed up with Shawn Mendes for a new version of “Lover,” the title track of (and best song on) her 7th LP. While I’m not sure if this is an improvement on the original, the “Stitches” hitmaker does put his own spin on the song. “We could light a bunch of candles and dance around the kitchen, baby,” he sings on a newly-written verse. Pictures of when we were young would hang on the wall.” They then come together for the lovely chorus. “Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever?” Taylor and Shawn croon. “You’re my lover.”

“There is a new version of ‘Lover’ coming,” Taylor told fans via video earlier this morning. “A remix, featuring someone who I’m such a huge fan of, who I’ve known for a really long time, and someone that I’ve always really been dying to collaborate with.” The 29-year-old then revealed that it was Shawn. “He has rewritten parts of it, which I think is so important because I love him as a writer, and I also think that everybody would write a different love letter to their lover and I think his take on it is so beautiful.”

As expected, the duet soared straight to number one on iTunes and should give the ballad a chart boost. Listen to the new version of “Lover” below.
