Album Review: Céline Dion's 'Courage'
The vocal legend's 12th English-language album is her best since the 1990s.

The title track of Céline Dion’s 12th English-language album (out Friday) is a burst of pure emotion. Produced by Stephan Moccio, the stripped-back ballad is an intimate conversation between the vocal great and her late husband, René Angélil. “There’s no replacing the way you touched me, I still feel the rush,” she sings over strings and piano. “Sometimes it drowns me ’til I can’t breathe, thinking it’s only in our memories.” However, the living legend rallies on the chorus. “Courage, don’t you dare fail me now,” Céline implores. “I need you to keep away the doubts.”

In a different world, one where radio stations still played artists over the age of 30, “Courage” would be a huge hit. It’s incredibly intimate, but also hugely relatable to anyone who has experienced loss. Céline dropped the video today (November 13) and it’s as chic as it is touching. Directed by Se Oh, the black-and-white clip focuses on the diva’s silhouette, allowing her to grieve through most of the song in darkness. However, when there is a closeup, it’s a shot to the heart.
