New Find: Jagwar Twin's 'Loser'
Roy English (the mastermind behind JT) delivers an anthem for outsiders.

Toronto newcomer ren already established herself as One To Watch when “waves” and “mind games” went viral earlier this year. The 17-year-old is ready to take it to the next level, however, with the grungy “idc.” A brutal ultimatum to get it together or get lost, the lead single from ren’s debut EP is a breath of fresh air. The production is all fuzz and feedback, evoking the (true) DIY days of the ’90s. The lyrics also convey the breakout star’s no-fucks attitude and effortless delivery.

“You wish you were a cool kid, but that’s just childish bullshit,” she reprimands her shitty boyfriend in the opening verse. “Can you just stop?” ren gets even more direct from there. “What the fuck’s the matter with you? I deserve better than you,” the talented teenager growls. “Show me some respect or we’re through.” By the time she reaches the chorus, it’s pretty clear that ren is already over it. “When I’m not there, you’re probably creeping with some girl,” the Geffen signee sighs. “I don’t fucking care anymore.”
