Carlie Hanson's 'WYA'
Carlie Hanson commands our full attention with new single 'WYA.'

Carlie Hanson can do no wrong. The 19-year-old’s debut EP, Junk, ranks as one of the year’s best and she just followed it up with another perfect pop song. “Side Effects” finds the breakout star ravaged by love sickness. Which is ironic because she was trying to keep it low-key. “Was the one who wanted no strings, now I’m tying us together,” the Wisconsin native laments in the opening verse. “Tell myself I wouldn’t feel things if I labeled us whatever.” Unfortunately, her plan backfired.

“I wasn’t looking for this, now I don’t want this to end,” Carlie sings over M-Phazes and Mitch Allan’s shimmering electro-pop production. “Lying on the kitchen floor, feeling all the side effects.” At this point, it’s unclear if “Side Effects” is a stand-alone single or the first taste of the teenager’s debut album (or perhaps another EP). One thing’s for sure, however. If she keeps churning out quality pop like this, bigger and better things await in 2020. Listen to Carlie’s “Side Effects” below.
