Madonna Accused Of Not Crediting “God Control” Songwriter
Well, this is unfortunate. Casey Spooner (one half of iconic EDM duo Fischerspooner) has accused Madonna of not crediting — or compensating — him for co-writing “God Control.” Arguably the highlight of Madame X, the sprawling disco anthem is absolutely central to the album’s themes of revolt and resistance. “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH [Madonna] and [Mirwais] have fucked me over,” the producer wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. “I co-wrote ‘GOD CONTROL’ and I’ve gotten no credit and no compensation. I’ve been dealing with this for 5 months and I’m over it.”
Spooner, who allegedly wrote the piece with Mirwais’ solo album in mind, also believes he has been offered an unsatisfactory settlement. “Honestly the terms are shitty,” he revealed. “I’m getting a 25K advance against publishing royalties which after legal fees and taxes will be 10K?!?! It’s been an endless nightmare of lawyers and waiting and more emails… and for what?! 10K? I should be getting paid a percentage of the live show. There is no money in record sales. Period. Not even for Madonna.”
The evidence? Spooner shared the original demo on Instagram as well as emails he sent to co-producer Mirwais when the song first dropped. See all of his “God Control”-related posts below.
