Chelsea Cutler’s debut LP, How To Be Human, is shaping up to be one of the great alt-pop albums of 2020. Songs like “You Are Losing Me” and the title track showcase her razor-sharp pen and knack for creating lingering melodies. Those qualities are also on display on “I Was In Heaven.” “I dreamt you said my name, you looked at me the same,” she sings in the first verse. “I was in heaven‚ I was in heaven.” The 22-year-old’s emotions come to the surface on the stream-of-consciousness chorus.

“I’m so scared to watch you grow, without my hand for you to hold,” Chelsea sings. “‘Cause I swore I would be your soul and never let you walk alone.” This is an essential addition to any breakup playlist. “As much as love is a part of the human condition, so is heart break,” the newcomer explains. “I wrote ‘I Was In Heaven’ at a point in my life when that’s exactly what I was going through. This song is really special to me because of how honest and raw it is.” Listen below. Hurts To Be Human drops January 17, 2020.
