Variety celebrated all facets of the music industry at their Hitmakers Brunch at Soho House, West Hollywood on December 7. The event honors not only the artists, producers and songwriters who made their presence felt on the charts, but also the oft-forgotten contributors to a hit. Like managers, record executives and labels. Introduced and organized by Shirley Halperin, Variety’s Executive Editor, the star-studded party began with Lil Nas X presenting the award for Songwriter Of The Year to Ryan Tedder.

The highlight, however, had to be the surprise appearance of BTS. Arriving with an entourage of handlers and security, the K-Pop titans radiated an aura of superstardom. However, when they took the stage to accept their well-deserved nod for Group Of The Year, the 7-member outfit delivered one of the most humble speeches of the afternoon. Kim Namjoon warmly thanked organizers and the Army (their loyal fans), before revealed that BTS has big plans for 2020.

Last but not least was the woman of the hour. Billie Eilish accepted her Hitmaker Of The Year award with the grace and nonchalance that we have come to expect. She was honored for releasing the biggest album of 2019 and for changing the way in which music is presented and consumed. See all of the winners honored at Variety’s Hitmakers Brunch below.
