Can You Say Iconic? Mariah Carey Makes Even More Chart History
Whether it’s an event or the Billboard Hot 100, a true queen knows when to bounce. And Mariah Carey is as regal as they come. This week, Mimi becomes the first artist in history to fall off the charts completely from the number one spot. Yes, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is nowhere to be seen on this week’s countdown. Which isn’t exactly surprising. The holidays are over and it’s time for the legendary hitmaker to hibernate for a few months before returning in late 2020 to teach the girls yet another lesson.
To my knowledge (at least), this is the third time Mariah has written her name in the record books of late. In December, she made history when “All I Want For Christmas Is You” reached number one 25 years after release — giving her a 19th chart-topper. And then, in the first week of January, Mimi became the first artist to have a number one hit in four different decades. It’s only fitting that this iconic bop disappear in a blaze of glory. After all, Mariah has never outstayed her welcome.
.@MariahCarey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" drops off the Hot 100 from #1.
It’s the only song to drop off from the top spot in the chart's history.
