Lily Allen Goes For Blood In Her Multi-Colored “Sheezus” Video: Watch

Lily Allen will ruffle some feathers with the title track of her awesomely-titled Sheezus LP. The spoken-word hip-hop/pop song is a rather biting commentary on the industry and her fellow divas. “Now wish me luck, I’m gonna need it,” she admits. “I’ll see you on the other side if I’m still breathing.” What is causing the Brit so much inner-turmoil?

Well, it could have something to do with the next verse of the song. “RiRi isn’t scared of Katy Perry’s roaring, Queen B’s going back to the drawing,” Lily quips before singing a certain Kiwi wunderkind’s praises. “Lorde smells blood, yeah she’s about to slay you.” It’s the next lyric that’s really controversial. “We’re all watching Gaga. LOL. Dying for the art, so really she’s a martyr,” she sings about the state of Mother Monster’s ARTPOP era.

Regardless of how you feel about Lily’s observations, you have to admire her honesty. This is a return to the fearlessness of her 2009 LP It’s Not Me, It’s You — a characteristic that has been sorely missing from Sheezus jams like “Air Balloon”. As for the video? It’s a multi-colored affair to evokes M.I.A.‘s visual approach. Watch up top.
