Maroon 5 Embrace Synths On “It Was Always You”: Listen To The Upbeat ‘V’ Buzz Track
While “Maps” continues to climb the Billboard Hot 100, Maroon 5 has unveiled another taste of their appropriately-titled fifth LP V (due September 2). And it’s not the genetically engineered for radio, pop/rock by numbers anthem we’ve come to expect from the band. Instead, they mix it up by experimenting with synths and the result is well worth a listen.
Produced by The Monsters and The Strangerz, “It Was Always You” begins ominously with jittery synths before Adam Levine sings about taking the leap from friends to lovers. “My whole life we never crossed the line, only friends in my mind,” the Begin Again actor admits. “But now I realize, it was always you.” It’s a fresh sound for the veteran rockers but still unmistakably Maroon 5.
