Katy Perry Shades Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga (Sort Of) In ‘Rolling Stone’ Interview

Get your cultural appropriation thinkpieces ready: Katy Perry is issuing a response to the critics and/or haters lashing out at her for using mummies and Egyptian cultural iconography in her work, as evidenced on her Prismatic World Tour and her “Dark Horse” music video. Her reasoning? Kim Kardashian.

Wait, what?

From her upcoming cover story in Rolling Stone, courtesy of JustJared: “As far as the mummy thing, I based it on plastic surgery. Look at someone like Kim Kardashian or Ice-T’s wife, Coco. Those girls aren’t African-American. But it’s actually a representation of our culture wanting to be plastic, and that’s why there’s bandages and it’s mummies. I thought that would really correlate well together… It came from an honest place. If there was any inkling of anything bad, then it wouldn’t be there, because I’m very sensitive to people. I guess I’ll just stick to baseball and hot dogs, and that’s it. I know that’s a quote that’s gonna come to f*ck me in the ass, but can’t you appreciate a culture? I guess, like, everybody has to stay in their lane? I don’t know.”

Shots fired! The founder of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood — a plastic member of society? Come on now, Katy. Even you’ve admitted to feeling like a plastic (bag) sometimes. Let us not pass judgment!

But that’s not all: She’s also (sort of) coming for Lady Gaga! “I’m not, like, a crazy ‘I’m gonna die for my fans’ type. Some people are so dramatic about it, and you’re like, ‘Honestly, you’re not the Second Coming. You’re just an entertainer!’… I’m very grateful for fans’ support, but I’m not thirsty or desperate,” she says of her #KatyCats. Is there another entertainer on the block more well known for her diehard fan appreciation than Mother Monster herself? It’s not like the two green-haired pop princesses haven’t traded barbs in the past.

What do you think — shade or nah? Will Katy’s komments “come to f*ck me in the ass” like she said? Check out all the upcoming quotes from Katy’s Rolling Stone cover story at Just Jared.
