Marlisa Wins ‘X Factor’ Australia, Bucks The Trend By Releasing A Good Winner’s Single: Listen To “Stand By You”

If there’s one universal truth to emerge from talent shows around the globe, it’s that the winner’s single is usually terrible. That probably has a lot to do with time constraints and the necessity of writing a song without the artist’s involvement but, more often than not, they blow. Marlisa, who won the sixth season of X Factor Australia earlier this week, bucks the trend with “Stand By You”.

Penned by Australian hitmakers DNA and singer/songwriter Hayley Warner, the emotional anthem eschews the usual cheesiness of winner’s singles and is all the better for it. “When you fight for every breath and the waves are over head, let me lay your mind to rest,” sings the 15-year-old high school student with her distinctive country twang. “I will stand by you”. Listen after the jump.
