Hailey Knox is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Tori Kelly, Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan by leveraging a loyal YouTube following into a fully-fledged pop career. The 17-year-old gets off to a promising start with debut single “Geeks,” which has already received Meghan Trainor’s seal of approval on Twitter. A stripped-back dose of relatable-pop, the track promises good thing for the New York City-based teen’s upcoming EP.

Co-written by Imani Coppola, “Geeks” is the new anthem for outsiders and the defiantly uncool. “Just take a peek at us, the freaks on the mini-bus, the geeks you like to throw into the fence,” Hailey sings over strummed guitar, before arriving at the chorus: “We know what we’re worth and you’ll get what you deserve when all the geeks inherit the earth.” If Sheryl Crow sang about teenage bullies, it would sound a little something like this.
