China Bans Fans From Betting On Taylor Swift’s Love Life

Lady Gaga is not the only thing China is cracking down on these days. On Wednesday (June 29), the country also banned Taylor Swift fans from placing bets – or “insurance policies” – on the pop-star’s relationships on Taobao, China’s largest online marketplace.

According to Xinhua News Agency (via The Hollywood Reporter), the minimum wager vendors took for bets on Swift’s love life was 1 yuan ($.15). Now, all that remains of this scheme is the following message: “According to laws and regulations, what you have searched for cannot be displayed.”

“If I bought a million, I would make a lot,” a buyer told Xinhua. “These stars break up all the time which gives us the opportunity to earn a lot of money.”

The volatile nature of Swift’s suitors is not the only thing folks have been betting on. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom‘s relationship and even the results of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election were also up for grabs on the site but have since been taken down. Though, fans can still insure themselves against the (apparently impending) event that Patrick Stewart decides to grow back his hair for the next X-Men movie.

All in all, it’s a sad day for Hiddleswift fans but a definite win for Patrick Stewart‘s gorgeously round bald head.
