Madonna Covers Britney Spears’ “Toxic” To Images Of Donald Trump: Watch
You’ve never heard Britney Spears‘ “Toxic” like this before.
On December 2, Madonna covered the In the Zone hit during her Tears of a Clown event at Art Basel Miami Beach. The Queen of Pop had tons on her mind: Standing Rock protesters, her longtime charity Raising Malawi. You also saw her shimmy and shake to “Music” with Ariana Grande. But her slow, haunted cover of “Toxic” was one of the night’s most surreal (and stinging) moments.
While dressed as a clown in pink, Madonna sang, “Don’t you know that you’re toxic” to images of Donald Trump and the “Pink Elephants on Parade” scene from Disney’s Dumbo. This tableau wasn’t as violent as, say, when Madonna, as a killer clown, pretended to choke a trick-or-treater dressed as our president-elect on Halloween. But her message was still loud and clear: Shit is about to get real.
