Kesha Discusses New Music & Getting Support From Adele

Back in October, Kesha broke her silence with her first interview since filing the Dr. Luke lawsuit in 2014. Speaking to the NYT Magazine, she discussed the lengthy legal battle and her new music, saying she turned in 22 songs to Sony over the summer. Now she has provided a bit more insight into her next phase as part of Billboard‘s annual Women in Music roundup.

Kesha says she’s writing new songs with Wrabel, and that they “showcase my vulnerabilities as a strength and not as a weakness. In the past, I always felt like I was trying to prove something. Now, I’m writing what I want to share with the world, rather than trying to give the world what it wants. For better or worse, I’m just me.”

A key step in the process of revealing the “real” Kesha was her somber cover of Bob Dylan‘s “It Ain’t Me, Babe” at the BBMAs earlier this year. “It felt like the first time I actually let myself be seen for who I truly am,” she said about the performance. “I let my guard down and just let my voice carry the song. It was one of the most special moments of my career.”

Kesha also revealed that Adele reached out to her privately during her legal ordeal (the diva also very publicly voiced her support for the singer at the BRITS this year).
