Adele Receives Oscar Nomination For “Skyfall”: Will She Win?

All those end-of-year charts saw a whole new flood of commercial milestones rolling in for Adele, who easily owned 2012 with the continued success of 21 — but now she’s received the holiest of critical acclaim, too, by way of an Academy Award nomination. Yes, Adele’s James Bond theme song “Skyfall,” from the film of the same name — that big, roaring melodramatic slice of jazzy noirish wailing — nabbed an Oscar nom in the original song category, which is great for Adele, and also great for the public, since it all but guarantees that she’ll perform at the Oscars.

Still, she’ll could face some stiff competition from the other contenders, particularly the wry “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” from Ted and the lullaby from the critically lauded Life of Pi. And yet, she’s in the rare category of being well-known to the Academy, who tend to skew older and out-of-touch, as well as being almost universally liked by the public. It’s inevitable: Let’s give her the EGOT already.

Does Adele deserve her Oscar nom? Tell us in the comments, then sound off on Facebook and Twitter.
