There are still a couple of months left before Sparkle hits theaters, but there are already talks circulating about turning the film into not only a book but also a Broadway musical. Howard Rosenman, the film’s original producer and writer as well as the 2012 version’s executive producer, has been working with Joel Schumacher, who directed the latest film version of The Phantom of the Opera, to add five more songs to the soundtrack already provided by Curtis Mayfield (who penned the 1976 version) and R.Kelly who wrote songs for the upcoming movie.

Rosenman said that Whitney Houston was very inspired by the girl in the film. And when he asked her to play the mom, she was very excited by the idea. Whitney has two songs on the soundtrack.

Little Boots‘ new single “Headphones” was made available at the UK iTunes store today, and if you were worried that Ms. Victoria Hesketh was going to slow things down with a ballad following the ’90s house throwback “Every Night I Say A Prayer”, you can ease your mind and keep your dancing shoes laced.

“I wear my headphones at the disco and nobody ever has to know,” Hesketh chirps on “Headphones”, just before an insanely catch bout of la la la la las kicks in. PopJustice notes — correctly so — that the song is reminiscent of Blondie. We’re also hearing shades of early Duran Duran. Listen below (with headphones on, preferably). More »

While most of us couldn’t be in Tel Aviv, Israel last night for the opening of Madonna‘s MDNA Tour, we were able to post some photos from the sold-out Ramat Gan Stadium gig. Now an EPK of sorts, which shows both backstage and performance footage from the show, has surfaced online. And if ticket-holders in other parts of the world were the least bit worried whether or not Madge’s latest spectacle would be worth the pricey fee, the below video should ease all fears. More »

“Feel So Close” hit-maker Calvin Harris has collaborated with London singer/rapper Example on a warm dance track called “We’ll Be Coming Back”. Following a remix of Florence + The Machine‘s “Spectrum”, production work on Cheryl Cole‘s “Call My Name” and Scissor Sisters“Only The Horses” and a pair-up with Ne-Yo on “Let’s Go”, this marks the Scottish DJ/producer’s latest work in the lead-up to his third album (due out sometime this year).

“We’ll Be Coming Back”, which is full of typically Calvin Harris-ian bleeps, bloops and stomping beats, premiered last night on BBC Radio 1. Watch the video below. More »

Kanye West‘s song in which he admits his love of current amour Kim Kardashian has transformed yet again. Originally titled “Theraflu”, the song got some heat from the cold medication brand and retitled itself as “Way Too Cold”. Now the tune is just called “Cold”, and boasts a second round of single artwork courtesy of Yeezy’s buddy, artist George Condo. Condo did the artwork for West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, as well as the previous “Cold” single art, featuring a topless women (in more ways than one). This updated art also sports a woman drawn without clothes, so for those who like looking at breasts, Condo’s got you covered.

“Cold” will likely be off the forthcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer, which will be out later this year.

Fun. is having a bit of fun with Gotye‘s “Somebody That I Used To Know” — the band covered the smash single for BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, and nabbed Paramore‘s Hayley Williams for Kimbra‘s part. Everything starts out alright, but frontman Nate Ruess can’t reach the same range as Gotye during the chorus, and by the time Hayley (who only appears via prerecorded vocals) joins in, the whole number turns shaky and comes off like karaoke. As overplayed as it might be, we’ll stick with the original, thanks. [Via Spin]

Mick Jagger will make his way to 30 Rockefeller this weekend to host Saturday Night Live‘s 37th season finale. (37 seasons? Why, that’s still thirteen years less than the existence of The Rolling Stones, who celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.)

Though Jagger has clearly influenced countless other artists over the years, SNL cast member Kristen Wiig shares how she, too, was deeply affected by the iconic rocker. ”I grew up on you,” she tells him in a promo for the May 19 episode. “You taught me so much about music. And you taught me so much about using drugs. I mean, so many drugs.”

Jagger will also act as the episode’s musical guest, and will be accompanied by Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire and Jeff Beck, and not, thankfully.

Following the release of Garbage‘s 2005 LP Bleed Like Me, the band dropped out of sight for seven long years. Sure, there was the release of 2007 hits collection Absolute Garbage and the unrealized hope for a Shirley Manson solo album to keep longtime fans going, but all in all, the band truly seemed to be over. Cut to seven years later, and we’re just seven days away from the seemingly impossible — the quartet’s brand new LP Not Your Kind Of People (out May 15). The US has been fed the appetizer of lead single “Blood For Poppies”, while the UK was given “Battle In Me”. (And here on Idolator, we premiered the first listen of “Big Bright World”.) Now you can stream Garbage’s brand new record in full over on, one week ahead of its official release. Be sure to come back let us know your thoughts on the band’s brand new material!

In the days following Beastie Boys Adam Yauch‘s death, it’s no surprise that his colleagues, friends and fans want to celebrate his life and career by singing cover songs, writing tributes, and even releasing unseen performances. Back in 2004, the group filmed a performance for the third season of Chappelle’s Show which remained unseen, as the third season of the Comedy Central show never aired. The clip remained unreleased until earlier today (May 7) when the show’s co-creator Neal Brennan uploaded the trio’s performance to YouTube.

Unfortunately, the video has since been pulled down after Viacom Inc. complained it had been posted without permission. Viacom (who owns Comedy Central) is currently in contact with EMI Publishing to figure out a way to get the video back online. And as soon as they do, we’ll have it right here for you.
