Lana Del Rey is a truly generous queen. The 33-year-old offered up a first taste of new music last week with the unveiling of “Mariners Apartment Complex.” A creative collaboration with Jack Antonoff, the dreamy bop offers an idea about the sonic direction she is exploring on her forthcoming album. Today (September 18), she dropped her second late-summer single, “Venice Bitch.” Unsurprisingly, it is equally gorgeous. Clocking in just under the 10-minute mark, her latest is an ethereal ballad that overflows with longing. “Oh god, miss you on my lips. It’s me your little Venice bitch. On the stoop with the neighborhood kids, calling out bang bang, kiss kiss,” she coos on the chorus.

She also rolled out a video in support of the track. The grainy release has a retro feel and is mostly comprised of footage of cars racing along a highway. The “White Mustang” siren makes brief appearances, and her voice grounds the release. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, she opened up about the track and its length. “I played it for my managers and I was like, yeah I think this is the single I want to put out,” she explained.

“And they were like it’s 10 minutes long. Are you kidding me? It’s called “Venice Bitch”. Like why do you do this to us? Can you make a three minute normal pop song? I was like well, end of summer, some people just wanna drive around for 10 minutes get lost in some electric guitar.” Both “Venice Bitch” and “Mariners Apartment Complex” are expected to appear on Lana’s new album, which is due in 2019. During her interview she revealed it is titled Norman Fucking Rockwell and should be comprised of 11 tracks. She added that the title track is “kind of about this guy who is such a genius artist but he thinks he’s the shit and he knows it and he like won’t shut up talking about it.” Her mind. She is also working on a book of poetry and short stories, tentatively titled Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass.
