From Cardi B To Brandi Carlile, The 2019 Grammy Nominations

Mike Nied | December 7, 2018 9:20 am

Clear out your calendars on February 10, because it looks like the 2019 Grammys are shaping up to be a must-see event. Today (December 7) the Academy unveiled the full list of nominees, and they feature a surprising but star-studded lineup. This year there were several changes made ahead of the biggest night in music. For instance, the four biggest categories – Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Album Of The Year – increased the pool of nominees from five to eight. These are typically some of the most contentious categories, and this year is no exception. Dua Lipa and Bebe Rexha emerge as frontrunners in the Best New Artist category. Meanwhile, Cardi B landed nods in both the Album Of The Year and Record Of The Year.

She faces stiff competition in both. It looks like a good year for hip-hop in the Album Of The Year category. Drake’s Scorpion, Post Malone’s Beer Bongs & Bentleys and Kendrick Lamar’s Black Panther Soundtrack are all in the running alongside Invasion Of Privacy. However, the likes of Janelle Monáe’s Dirty Computer and Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour even things out. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s Golden Globes-nominated “Shallow” is in the running for both Song and Record Of The Year. Shawn Mendes’ sweeping “In My Blood” also landed a nod in Song Of The Year.

He also landed nominations in the Pop categories. He faces off against Camila Cabello, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Pink and Taylor Swift for Best Pop Vocal Album. Even more exciting is Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato’s “Fall In Line,” which got some recognition in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Per usual, there are some obvious names missing in the major categories (Beyonce and Jay-Z’s Everything Is Love being one example). We’ll be putting together a post about some of the snubs later today. But in the meantime check out the full list of nominations below to see if your fav made the cut.
