Iggy Azalea Interview
The rapper opens up about comeback hit 'Kream' and her aggressive, new EP.

Iggy Azalea toasted to some surprising news over the weekend. Saturday (November 3), the “Fancy” chart-topper hopped on Twitter to reveal she was free of her contract with Island Records. “I’m officially unsigned,” she tweeted with four exclamation points and some joyous emojis. While some musicians would be stressed by the news, she is clearly embracing her new status as an independent artist. “Wild you spend so long trying to get IN a record deal… never thought I’d be so elated to be OUT of one. now I’m free to release whatever kinda music I like, whenever I’d like woooo.” Fans shouldn’t get too excited about the prospect of a new release just yet, though. The 28-year-old was quick to reveal that she had no intentions of dropping anything until next year.

“I am nowhere near ready direction wise etc with the stuff I’ve been working on and I don’t wanna jump the gun and have some messy era aesthetically,” she explained in a follow-up tweet. “I’m aiming to be ready to share new music early next year!” The Aussie also offered up her skills and revealed that she was ready to line up some collaborations if anyone was looking. “I’m back on the block,” she promised. It was all positive vibes as she proceeded to thank her fans and peers. “Everyone’s been really supportive of this move – thanks for understanding and making me even more excited for all the new stuff. Sky’s the limit.”

Her departure comes less than a year after signing with Island Records. However, it isn’t totally surprising. Iggy was on a hot streak around the release of Survive The Summer. It’s lead single, the Tyga-assisted “Kream,” made an appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 and received an appropriately NSFL video. The EP was met with warm reviews, and Iggy also landed a killer feature on Total Ape’s “In A Haze.” But she hit a roadblock with the cancellation of The Bad Girls Tour. Hopefully Iggy’s newfound independence gives her the freedom she needs to stage an epic comeback in 2019. In the meantime check out her tweets and revisit Survive The Summer below!
