It sounds like Taylor Swift should deserves an executive producer listing on Ed Sheeran‘s next album — or a co-producer credit, at the very least. Sheeran worked on much of his + follow-up while on the road as the opener on Swift’s Red tour, and the British crooner recently told MTV News that he got Swift herself to listen to his new tracks and offer feedback.
“Whenever I finished a song, I’d send it to [Swift] to get her opinion,” Sheeran told MTV. “She’s heard all the songs and she’s a good judge of what’s good or not good.” We like to imagine the superstar lounging on a couch, Rick Rubin-style, giving the Gladiator thumbs-up/thumbs-down after each song. Kanye West may have napalmed his bridges with Nike and joined Team Adidas, but Nike will be just fine without the Air Yeezy, because now they’ve got Drake. During the Would You Like A Tour? stop in Nike’s hometown of Portland last night (December 3), Drizzy announced that he’s “Team Jordan.” He accompanied the announcement with photos of two white OVO-branded Jordans — part of the OVO Stingray X sample pack and OVO Stingray XII sample pack.
Both shoes are all-white with gold detailing and translucent soles revealing a gold OVO logo. Check out more sneaker porn below. More »
Fans of Kanye West have had an embarrassment of riches this year with Yeezus, the tour and his unexpected return to the spotlight via a relentless interview cycle. But, from the way he’s been talking about “product” and fashion and building his cultural empire in said interviews, it has often seemed like West is bored with music and ready to leave it behind altogether for other ventures. Luckily, that’s not happening just yet! In a recent interview, his pal Q-Tip said he and Yeezus guru Rick Rubin are producing West’s next album. “‘I’m producing Kanye’s new album with Rick Rubin…that’s coming up,” the Tribe Called Quest legend said in an interview at Life + Times.
Last week, Ye himself said he had already begun working on his Yeezus follow-up, and is aiming for a summer 2014 release. This is in addition to the fact that a few songs scrapped from Yeezus are just sitting around West’s lair. The Q-Tip news is particularly exciting — he did production work on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch The Throne, but since signing to G.O.O.D. Music in 2012, he has been relatively quiet. While fans are eager for Tip to release solo material on G.O.O.D., an EP credit on a Ye album is a fine second option. More »
“It only takes one to win,” says Blake Shelton of his one-man team going into Tuesday night’s elimination on The Voice. Though just a tad insensitive to Cee Lo’s team of zero, it sets a fighting tone for the battle against Adam Levine and his team of three and Christina Aguilera and her team of two.
While the competitive spirit was alive and well on Tuesday’s show, so was a whole lot of the Christmas spirit. With some holiday-themed performances, not to mention the super-festive leather Renaissance festival top decking Cee Lo’s halls, it was hard not to feel the miracle of the season in the air. Or was that residual fog machine and lasers from Monday night’s show? No matter! More »

New music from Alicia Keys is long overdue. Well, it hasn’t really been that long but my ears are already going through withdrawals. If you feel the same way, take heart. A new cover of PM Dawn‘s 1992 hit “Die Without You” surfaced online today (December 3) and it’s every bit as soulful and gorgeous as you would expect from an AK piano ballad.
Taken from The Vault sessions, the simple demo sounds unfinished but that somehow only adds to its charm. “Oh I apologize for all the things I’ve done, now I’m underwater and I’m drowning,” she painfully croons before admitting: “inside I’d die with you.” Listen after the jump. More »
Beyonce continues to win hearts by using her celebrity to raise money for charitable causes. In North America, the superstar has partnered with Goodwill to help finance job centers for people with a disability. In Australia, she joined forces with Barnados — an organization providing children’s services and support.
Mrs. Carter uploaded a video today (December 3) showcasing the charity’s good work and an unexpected meet and greet she sprang on a group of disadvantaged children that lovingly recreated her “Love On Top” video. It’s heartwarming to see the impact Beyonce’s #BeyGood initiative is having in people’s lives. Watch up top. More »
In a previous post I joked that Lady Gaga has shown us all there is to see during the ARTPOP era — with one obvious exception. Well, Mother Monster crosses that line too on the eye-popping cover of Candy magazine and my eyes will never be the same again.
The full frontal nude image depicts the pop icon wearing nothing but a fur coat, which she leaves open. It’s all very artistic. The black-and-white photography combined with Gaga’s moustache and large breast tattoo scream German cabaret but the star of the show is definitely the diva’s unpruned pubic area. More »
“Royals” may still be ubiquitous, but Lorde is shifting her focus onto new single “Team,” which is good because “Royals” has grown exhausting and “Team” still sounds nice and fresh — so the release of her “Team” video feels fortuitously timed.
But what does it all mean, in this video? It’s not entirely clear! The clip, which was shot in Red Hook, Brooklyn, has some vaguely sinister sequences involving teens in a kind of enclave with Lorde, and there’s a lot of water imagery and some palm fronds, and that’s probably all you really need to know. Mary J. Blige is already bringing festive cheer to homes across America with her amazingly-titled seasonal album A Mary Christmas but ups the ante with suitably nostalgic video for “My Favorite Things” — The Sound Of Music standard also featured on Kelly Clarkson‘s Wrapped In Red.
So what are Mary’s favorite things? It would seem that Christmas decorations, presents, white dresses and lounging around in comfortable armchairs would be high on her list from this visual. It’s chic and simple and features the R&B icon wearing a shiny silver bauble on her head. What more do you need? Watch up top. More »
