chaircrusher commented on Your Chance To Provide The Content Around Here, at 11:56 PM on Sep 5 Extremely local -- Kelley who put the compilation together rode over to my house on her Schwinn 3 Speed -- and yet national -- "Jugs Across America" which is a compilation of contemporary Jug Band music from around the US, including contribution from Jim Kweskin -- the elder statesman of Jug Band Music. [www.myspace.com] Weather Is Happening -- a Wichita band -- still do my head in. more »

chaircrusher commented on Is Techno In A Holding Pattern?, at 10:04 AM on Jul 28 Philip Sherburne gets paid to write, and this particular think-piece came down to his subjective taste, a slight frisson of ennui floating around his pied-a-terre, and the need to pull something out of his butt on deadline. The fact is, great records keep getting made, in the face of a down-swing in the economy, a downswing in the American consumer's acceptance of underground dance music, and a rapidly shifting economic model. more »

chaircrusher commented on Just Asking: So, Um, Who's Going To Headline Coachella In 2013?, at 1:32 PM on Apr 29 Coachella is the festival for people who came of age 15-20 years ago and only now can afford to take off a weekend, pay for lodging and a stiff ticket, in order to see all the acts they couldn't see when they were actually current. There are plenty of places to see interesting music -- often for $5 and all the $2 PBRs you can drink, but you have to actually learn something about your local music scene, and occasionally sit through someone who's complete shite. Me, I splurge on going to Detroit for the Electronic Music Festival every Memorial Day Weekend. more »
