The genre that it originally described has, with some exception sure, become a lot less interesting and more or less appropriated. Look at Pitchfork's Best New Music or Recommendations page (which seems to be broken at the moment) and you'll see more electro, out-, rap and dance music than you will skinny white dudes with guitars. It's like how "hipster" five years ago meant a guy who listened to indie rock, wore trucker hats, and ironic vintage tees, but now "hipster" means skinny gay guys in leggings dancing to Ed Banger tracks. more » [gawker]
