VIDEO REWIND OF THE DAY: Today would have been DJ AM’s (nee Adam Goldstein) 37th birthday, and although his death (due to an “acute intoxication” from a combination of cocaine and prescription drugs) happened over eight months ago, it’s still so sad to think about someone so talented taken while still in their prime. It’s easy to think that Adam, who was very open about his addictions to drugs—and had even filmed an MTV series Gone Too Far about struggling with addiction—may still be alive if not for the plane crash he survived. (He had been prescribed painkillers after the crash, and suffered post-traumatic stress that very likely contributed to him using drugs again.)

But let’s focus on the positive—Goldstein was memorialized this past weekend at the Winter Music Conference in a DJ AM Tribute party, with his friend and collaborator Travis Barker in attendence. And if you had never seen the DJ spin in real life, look below, and you can check out DJ AM’s lively, dynamic debut performance at Rain nightclub in Las Vegas in 2009, a Friday night residence he would hold up until his premature passing.
