TIFFANY Goes Solo With "I Just Wanna Dance"
Hungry for new K-Pop? Look no further than TIFFANY's "I Just Wanna Dance."

After a two year hiatus (an eternity in K-pop time), Girls’ Generation are finally coming back with a new album. According to reports, the self-proclaimed world’s “No. 1 girl group” will return in late July or early August with a new disc to commemorate their tenth anniversary. The pop princesses debuted back in 2007 with their self-titled album Girls’ Generation, and have since released eight studio albums and four EPs.

These days, it’s a miracle for any girl group to survive for a decade — see Fifth Harmony for reference! It’s an even greater feat for a K-pop group, where the average lifespan is between 5 and 7 years for even the most successful acts. It will be interesting to see where Girls’ Generation go with their next release after 2015’s eclectic Lion Heart, which was a mish-mash of bubblegum pop that saw the group tackle different styles and concepts across the disc’s three hit singles.

“Party” borrowed heavily from Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and “You Think” unnecessarily brought back the outdated urban-pop of the Pussycat Dolls, but the gorgeous title track was a welcome return to the retro pop-soul of the sixties and has since become a highlight in the group’s long discography. Before the ladies return in full, member Taeyeon will be back with another solo album, My Voice, at the end of the month. A pre-release single, “I Got Love”, has already been released.
