I saw Suicidal Tendencies play there with Carnivore in 1987. It was a cold dreary night in a cold dreary club. Now it's pop culture revisionism. I am sure the free apples will end when some band gets pelted with them.

This is absurd-reminds me when they tried to bring back Max's Kansas City a few years ago in the West 50s...that stupid sign sat there at least two years after the place closed (which barely ever opened anyway).

I guess New York wouldn't get so misty eyed over their closed rock clubs if THEY WOULDN'T KEEP CLOSING THEM! (FU, NYU!)

The "new ritz" was actually a pretty decent venue where I saw some amazing shows (Ramones, Megadeth, Quicksand, Dinosaur jr, etc) and I remember when Webster Hall started doing rock shows again it was briefly called "the Old Ritz" in ads.

Another great great rock venue was the Marquee. It then became a million rave clubs, last one being Spirit. When I saw Gwar at Spirit a couple of years ago I had a bizarre sense of Deja Vu until I realized I was in the Marquee.

Saw some insane shows there. Uncle Tupelo opening for Teenage Fanclub, Monster Magnet opening for Godflesh, Material Issue, etc.

Ahhh the good old days. And does anyone remember the Grand in Union Square?? Unfortunately losing awesome venues is not a recent phenomenon.

Don't even get me started on Coney Island High....

Maybe the designers thought the club was in Times Square when they were coming up with that abomination.

So, so awful. I work two blocks away and pass by there weekly when I make a pilgrimage to Trader Joe's.

The only thing sadder than the rebranding is the fact that, whenevr I pass the ticket booth, the list of on-sales is lately so pitiful. (I mean, a multinight with the Tragically Hip?!)

Behold: new signage at the music venue once known—in a quaint, far-away time—as Irving Plaza. We linked to the above photo of it yesterday, but an email to the Curbed inbox has convinced us this glorious spot of branding deserves to be more widely seen.

It's that tie-dyed "F" jumping out of a National Geographic frame on the left that totally does it.
