Adele & Phil Collins Are Writing Songs Together

Phil Collins revealed to Inside South Florida that he has started writing new music with Adele. “She contacted me to write together,” he said. “I wasn’t actually too aware [of her]; I live in a cave. But she’s achieved an incredible amount, and I really love her voice, and I love some of the stuff that she’s done.”

Collins didn’t specify whether these new songs are for Adele’s third album (aka the follow-up to 2011′s juggernaut 21). Host Dave Aizer had quite a bit to cover, from Collins’ charity Little Dreams Foundation to the Miami Heat’s use of Genesis‘ “In the Air Tonight” and his primary sources for new music — his children. Because Aizer asked, Collins did admit that he isn’t familiar with twerking but is familiar with Miley Cyrus. (See the chat after the jump.) More »

Grammys 2014: Who Will Win Best Song Written For Visual Media?

Music At The Movies
This award has been around since 1988 (when it was called the Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture Or Television) but its name has been changed more than a couple of times to keep up with technology and the changing times. And wouldn’t you know it? This year a song from a visual medium (other than TV or film) is finally nominated! OK, some might call streaming a show through Netflix television, but it is technically an Internet show since Netfilx isn’t a TV network…yet. That being said — and boring Grammy history lesson aside — the remaining five nominees in the category are from traditional motion pictures.

Now back to business: Are you ready for a room full of grandmas? Wait, that’s something else. This is the Grammys, a gathering of musical talents that stretches far beyond the tunes that are solely intended for the nanas and meemaws of the world. Movies, television—and all visual media—wouldn’t be complete without their music, so we’re looking at the songs written specifically for theses channels, and breaking them down to deduce which are the best of bunch. Adele’s ’21′ Becomes First Album To Sell 3 Million Digital Copies

Adele‘s 2011 juggernaut 21 was the highest-selling album of that year and of 2012, the first time an album topped sales in consecutive years. 21 also recently became Amazon’s best-selling album of all time. And now it has reached another landmark, becoming the first album to eclipse three million digital sales. (Sure, it’s a completely arbitrary sales mark, but aren’t they all?)

A representative from Nielsen SoundScan confirmed to Rolling Stone that the diamond-certified LP reached the milestone, just a few weeks before it turns two. More »

Mike WiLL Made It Wants To Work With Adele, Lady Gaga & Miley Cyrus (Again) On Debut LP

Mike WiLL Made It recently spoke to Rolling Stone about his much hyped debut LP Est. In 1989 Pt. 3 (The Album) and revealed his wish list of collaborators. It’s no surprise that the hip-hop producer wants to team up with Miley Cyrus again after the massive success of “23″ but the inclusion of Adele and Lady Gaga will raise some eyebrows.

“I want to work with Miley again,” the part-time MC explained. “I want to have Future on there, even people like Adele and R. Kelly and Lady Gaga. I want to come with different things from my album.” Given his current status as one of urban music’s hottest producers, it might just happen.

But when can we expect to hear this opus? “I don’t want to put out my album unless it’s a moment like when Dr. Dre dropped The Chronic,” Mike told the music bible. “People have been recording mixtapes off of Dre’s instrumentals and I want to do the same thing and make sure it’s a moment in time. I want to make sure my album’s perfect and that when it comes out it’s a moment.” More »

Wiz Khalifa Talks About Working With Adele On ‘Blacc Hollywood’

Wiz Khalifa sat down with AXS TV Tuesday (November 19) to talk about his forthcoming album Blacc Hollywood, and shed some light on how his collaboration with Adele came about. Turns out it was all thanks to that whole “motherly connection” thing after his then-fiancee Amber Rose, who was pregnant at the time, bumped into Adele at the Grammys in February.

“We seen each other at the Grammys. She ran up on Amber. She was like, ‘Amber! Amber!’ And told her how beautiful she looked,” Wiz told AXS. “Her people contacted some of my people when they found out that we were working on the album and sent some ideas through, so we were able to knock some things out.”

Unfortunately, that’s all he revealed about their collab (and he didn’t address the status of that Miley Cyrus feature). But while there has yet to be an official announcement that Adele will appear on his O.N.I.F.C. follow-up, we can’t imagine a song with the British goddess would ever fail to make the album cut. Your move, Pusha T.

Chris Brown Talks Losing His Virginity — At Age 8: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Chris Brown recently talked of how he spent his summer: finishing his new album X, dealing with paparazzi and reckoning with what he calls “the Rihanna incident.” However, the new Q&A has raised eyebrows mostly because he says that he lost his virginity at age 8. (“It’s different in the country,” he says of his Tappahannock, Va., childhood.) [The Guardian]

:: Lady Gaga will reveal her ARTPOP cover art later today (October 7) via iHeartRadio. The person responsible is Jeff Koons, once named “the most successful artist since Andy Warhol,” and a hint of what’s to come looks rather familiar. [Twitter]

:: Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Adele made Variety‘s new Women’s Impact List, of those who “innovated in business, pushed boundaries and grabbed headlines over the past year.” Fun fact from the list: Adele made the cut with just one public performance. [Variety]

:: This weekend, in #respect: Joe Jonas quoted Lorde‘s “Royals” to critique her own, misguided comments regarding Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. Reminder: Lorde has already apologized, sorta. [Twitter]

:: Speaking of queens, though: Eminem was reportedly present to watch his daughter, Hailie Scott, be crowned homecoming queen this weekend. “[H]er father watched from inside the school because he didn’t want to cause a scene — he wanted Hailie to have her own moment,” one parent said. Ryan Tedder Talks New Beyonce & Adele Albums & Drags Miley Cyrus, Just Because

Well! Ryan Tedder, he of OneRepublic demi-celebrity and writing all the biggest songs for all your favorite people (“Halo” by Beyonce, anyone?) has been hard at work on some big albums for some people whose names you might know (Beyonce and Adele, so no big deal) and he’s spilling the beans in a new interview with The Herald Sun, where he revealed nothing of great significance but probably “built hype,” which should make everyone happy. (Basically, there’s nothing here that anyone’s publicist is going to get upset about — it’s all good news.)

On the subject of Adele, for whom he penned “Turning Tables” off her bajillion-times-platinum 21: “[She] sounds even better than before,” he said. “I love where she’s at, she’s still my favourite artist in the world. I would press pause on my entire life if it meant I could go into the studio for a month straight with her.” I would too, Ryan. I would too. More »

Wiz Khalifa’s New Album ‘Blacc Hollywood’ Could Feature Collaborations With Miley Cyrus And Adele

In a year dominated by massive, game-changing hip-hop albums (think Kanye West‘s experimental Yeezus and Jay Z‘s pioneering Magna Carta Holy Grail), the pressure to stand out from the crowd must be almost unbearable. Wiz Khalifa, however, might have found a way to do just that by calling on two of pop’s hottest ladies to feature on his forthcoming LP Blacc Hollywood.

Wiz told Fuse News that he has already recorded songs with Miley Cyrus and Adele but hasn’t got permission to release them yet. “I got a lot of guest appearances that I’ve already done, but none of them have been cleared for the album yet,” the rapper admits. The ambitious Taylor Gang chief is also eyeing a collaboration with Lady Gaga.

“I want to do something with Lady Gaga really bad,” he told Fuse. “Lady Gaga/Wiz Khalifa — we need to make that happen.” More »
