Now here’s something you don’t see every day: Adele
on a red carpet wearing something other than the color black
! The uber rich pop star arrived at the 2013 Grammy Awards
dressed in a retro red number. Just goes to show you, when it comes to music’s big night, expect the unexpected. More »
In a startling turn that has left the media shocked and fumbling for something solid to cling to in this chaotic, increasingly unpredictable world, new reports have surfaced alleging that Adele
is rich. Like, super
The Sun reports (via NME) that the singer makes £41,000 a day (at current exchange rates, that’s about $65,000); company accounts show that she has £10.3 million on hand and £4.6 million due in royalties and “other payments,” which totals £14.9 million. (That’s $16.3 million in the bank, $7.3 million coming her way, and $22.6 million altogether, so no big.) If there’s a lesson here, it’s that all you need is phenomenal vocal talent, unparalleled songcraft and the raw emotion of brutal heartbreak to make millions of dollars. Any takers?
With the 55th Annual Grammy Awards just days away, we’ve got that yearly itch to revisit the fashions of Grammys gone by. This time, however, we’re scratching it in a different way. This isn’t a hottest red carpet roundup. Instead, you’re not going to see Jennifer Lopez
in that green Versace dress,
rocking sexy bed-head hair
. No, this year what caught our attention when we took a walk down Grammy memory lane was what actually stood the test of time: the women themselves.
In the gallery above, we present to you pop’s divas whose careers long outlasted the now-dated dresses they wore. Join us as we celebrate young Britney Spears, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Adele and Whitney Houston the night they won their first Grammys and (for reasons unknown) that time that Cher talked to Miley Cyrus. See how many of these historical pop moments you remember! More »
Did you know that Norah Jones
sang the theme song to Seth MacFarlane
‘s talking-bear comedy Ted
? And that the song, “Everybody Needs a Best Friend,” is up for Best Original Song at the Oscars? And did you know Jones considers the Family Guy
creator one of her friends? It’s all true
! So it’s only fitting, then, that Norah has been invited to perform the MacFarlane-penned theme at the MacFarlane-hosted Academy Awards on February 24.
Of course, she won’t be the only classy crooner gracing the stage. Adele will perform her James Bond theme “Skyfall,” which is also nominated. Those two old-fashioned, horn-heavy tunes are up against tracks from Les Miserables, Life of Pi and something called Chasing Ice.

Did You Hear?
:: Rihanna was caught leaving Hollywood’s Playhouse club with a group of friends on the same night as model Karrueche Tran’s party in honor of her cover story with Rolling Out magazine. Tran is Chris Brown’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, so he was in attendance, although he made zero waves for a change. Rihanna, though, made the biggest statement by showing up… and then leaving. Drama! [New York Daily News]
:: One Direction’s young stud Zayn Malik must enjoy a little diversity — aka infidelity. Once again, the 1D singer is reported to have cheated on his Little Mix gal Perrie Edwards — this time, with an Australian waitress named Courtney Webb. [The Sun]
:: Alicia Keys released her single “BNM (Brand New Me)” at the end of last year, but now gave the hit a brand new remix. Leeshy dropped “Part 2″ of the song, using a beat sample from Cajmere’s “It’s Time For the Percolator” along with interpolating Crystal Waters’ classic “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” on the hook. [Rap-Up]
:: Adele has kept far from mum about her feelings toward father Mark Evans, saying that she’d spit in his face if she ever saw him. Evans has tried to re-open the wound once again, now that he has a grandson that he has yet to meet. Apparently, Mark Evans has left multiple messages for Adele, asking to meet her firstborn, but he’s received no response. Doesn’t sound like Adele will be returning calls to her dad anytime soon. Because you clearly didn’t get enough award show overload this week with the People’s Choice Awards
being held last night, Oscar nominees announced
this morning and the Golden Globes just around the corner
, the lucky artists up for 2013 BRIT Awards
were announced today. Many artists who won big at the UK’s equivalent of the Grammys have found themselves nominated again this year, including Emeli Sande

Sande is up for the most BRITs (four, including British Album Of The Year), while One Direction, winners of British Single last year, are up for British Group, and Adele, last year’s Album Of The Year and British Female Solo Artist winner, is nominated for British Single (for “Skyfall”) this time around.

All those end-of-year charts saw a whole new flood of commercial milestones rolling in for Adele
, who easily owned 2012 with the continued success of 21
— but now she’s received the holiest of critical acclaim, too, by way of an Academy Award nomination. Yes, Adele’s James Bond theme song “Skyfall,”
from the film of the same name — that big, roaring melodramatic slice of jazzy noirish wailing — nabbed an Oscar nom in the original song category, which is great for Adele, and also great for the public, since it all but guarantees that she’ll perform at the Oscars. More »
