“The Star-Spangled Banner” is one of the most notoriously difficult songs to pull off live. Not only does it require stunning vocal talent, you also face the ire of America if you fumble while belting out the patriotic standard.
That said, Alicia Keys not only sang her red-dress-clad butt off at the Super Bowl, ahead of the big showdown between the Ravens and the 49ers, she also played piano while doing so — proving once again that this girl is definitely on fire. More »
This National Anthem’s on fiiiiire! Alicia Keys
helped kick off Super Bowl XLVII
(a.k.a. the Beyonce
Bowl) by performing the “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Dressed in a gorgeous red gown and striking gold necklace (Alicia’s subtle way of rooting for the Niners, hmm?), the R&B diva sat behind her white Yamaha piano for an beautifully moving rendition of the National Anthem that would undoubtedly make Francis Scott Key
proud. More »
Lost in all the hubbub about Frank Ocean
with Chris Brown
is that it led to Ocean unofficially revealing that he’d be performing at the Grammys
, despite being absent from the most recent lineup announcement
at the time. If you’ll recall, after the fight Ocean tweeted: “cut my finger now I can’t play w two hands at the grammys.” And now, the Grammy cabal has confirmed that the singer — who’s up for Best New Artist
and Album of the Year, among other awards — will be performing at the ceremony on February 10.
Another big addition to the lineup comes in the form of a collaboration: 14-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys will be performing with Maroon 5. These three acts join previously announced heavy-hitters like Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Fun. More »
Did you hear the news? In a deliriously weird ceremony earlier today, Alicia Keys
was named the Global Creative Director of BlackBerry
, the mobile device of choice for Wall Street bankers and people who love having typos in their emails!
For whatever reason, this struck a particular chord with the public, perhaps due to the unfortunate message of Keys, a once-enormous superstar whose successes have been perhaps humbler in recent years, partnering with a formerly ubiquitous tech brand whose relevance is dwindling to lead their creative direction (but about what, though?). It also might have something to do with the fact that Alicia Keys and BlackBerry have literally nothing to do with each other. But rather than try to analyze it, let’s just let the public speak. :: Rihanna was caught leaving Hollywood’s Playhouse club with a group of friends on the same night as model Karrueche Tran’s party in honor of her cover story with Rolling Out magazine. Tran is Chris Brown’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, so he was in attendance, although he made zero waves for a change. Rihanna, though, made the biggest statement by showing up… and then leaving. Drama! [New York Daily News]
:: One Direction’s young stud Zayn Malik must enjoy a little diversity — aka infidelity. Once again, the 1D singer is reported to have cheated on his Little Mix gal Perrie Edwards — this time, with an Australian waitress named Courtney Webb. [The Sun]
:: Alicia Keys released her single “BNM (Brand New Me)” at the end of last year, but now gave the hit a brand new remix. Leeshy dropped “Part 2″ of the song, using a beat sample from Cajmere’s “It’s Time For the Percolator” along with interpolating Crystal Waters’ classic “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” on the hook. [Rap-Up]
:: Adele has kept far from mum about her feelings toward father Mark Evans, saying that she’d spit in his face if she ever saw him. Evans has tried to re-open the wound once again, now that he has a grandson that he has yet to meet. Apparently, Mark Evans has left multiple messages for Adele, asking to meet her firstborn, but he’s received no response. Doesn’t sound like Adele will be returning calls to her dad anytime soon. will kick off Super Bowl Sunday in New Orleans on February 3 by singing the National Anthem before the game, according to the AP — though the NFL has yet to confirm the report. Keys isn’t the only star performing at Super Bowl XLVII, of course, as Beyonce
is performing at the halftime show, which will include a Destiny’s Child
reunion for their new song “Nuclear.”
Beyonce herself sang the anthem to open Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. Could Alicia make the same jump? Well, we can picture it now: Super Bowl XLVIII, MetLife stadium right next to NYC, as Jay-Z and Alicia Keys belt out “Empire State Of Mind.” It’s gonna happen, people.
Back in November, Alicia Keys announced
plans for a spring 2013 tour, with Miguel
in the opening slot. Today (January 10) she officially announced the dates for her Set The World On Fire arena tour, and keeping her promise, Miguel will be hitting the road with her.
The two will make it to 24 cities in the US and Canada, beginning March 7 in Seattle. Keys made sure to give her hometown fans some love, with dates in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Atlantic City, before finishing up in Chicago on April 18. Considering the tour’s name, we’re guessing Keys will announce some international dates later this year. Head below to see if the tour’s coming to your city. More »
