Alicia Keys Is Sleek on ‘Billboard’ Cover, Sultry on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Indeed, Alicia Keys is heating up. Keys scored her second Billboard cover story this week, ahead of her fifth album Girl on Fire (out November 27), and in the November 10 issue, Keys and others explain how new voices and experiences informed the new album. “That’s the most personal song Alicia has done. She has a very emotional way of delivering a song,” Peter Edge, RCA CEO, said of opening track “Brand New Me.” “But on this album she has dug deep, become more confessional and personal versus talking in generalities. It’s a very big step in a new direction.”

While Keys’ last album, The Element of Freedom, featured Beyonce and Drake as guest vocalists, Keys has enlisted even more new and new-to-her voices for this record, including Nicki Minaj, Maxwell and Sande, age 25. But last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, she simply appeared as a captivating solo performer. Watch the Jimmy Kimmel crowd raise their fists to “Girl on Fire” after the jump. More »

Unlocked With Keys
Alicia Keys has premiered her new track “Unlock Yourself” via a cute little lyric video. The delicate piano tune is an inspirational call for kids to be themselves and follow their dreams — think of it as “Empire State Of Mind” for the diaper-wearing set.

The song comes as a bonus for fans, as it doesn’t appear on Alicia’s forthcoming album Girl On Fire (out November 27). Rather, it’s the theme for her new children’s app The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee, which is available now at the iTunes app store. The app features another non-Girl track as well, called “Follow The Moon.”

Did You Hear?

:: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel reportedly only invited two *NSYNC members to their wedding. JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick were invited to the Puglia, Italy ceremony, but Lance Bass and Joey Fatone were left off the guest list. [Us Weekly]

:: Bobby Brown was arrested and charged with DUI in L.A. Wednesday morning (October 24) at 1 a.m. local time. The 43-year-old notched a DUI previously in March, days after the autopsy results of his ex-wife Whitney Houston were released. He was sentenced to three years on probation for that offense. [MTV RapFix]

:: Apparently there’s a Raiders Of The Lost Ark-like warehouse filled with Lil Wayne and Dr. Dre collaborations, because Weezy told MTV that he “probably did about 90 songs with Dre.” We’re not even sure Dre has done 90 songs in his entire career, so we don’t know what to make of this. [2 Dope Boyz]

:: Alicia Keys has launched an animated app for children, and it contains the original song “Follow The Moon” which she wrote specifically for the app. In The Journals Of Mama Mae And LeeLee, users can play the virtual piano and draw in a journal. [Rap-Up]
