But an astonishing profile in today's New York Times details how her boozing, pill-popping, rodent-chasing lifestyle went completely out of control this year, just around the time she was promoting her excellent white-soul album, The Greatest:About two weeks before its release in January, Ms. Marshall said, she lost her mind: "I was looking at death.
