Dev Covers Katy Perry: Listen To Her Mash-Up Of “Part Of Me” And “The One That Got Away”

Dev returned to the music scene late last year with Sage The Gemini-assisted club banger “Kiss It”. To help build hype for her comeback, the dance diva has recorded an experimental EP called Not All Love Songs Have To Be Sad with friend/producer NanosauR and uploaded it to SoundCloud as a fan freebie. It’s an interesting experiment with one huge surprise.

The 24-year-old delivers a killer mash-up of Katy Perry‘s “Part Of Me” and “The One That Got Away”. It’s astonishing how seamlessly the songs blend together to form something completely new. While the Prism hitmaker’s originals were defiant and wistful (respectfully), Dev’s interpretation is downright numb and apathetic. Listen to the icy synth-gem after the jump. More »

Dev & Sage The Gemini Play House In “Kiss It” Video: Watch

Pour Up
Dev has premiered the goofy video for her Sage The Gemini collaboration “Kiss It.” The track was produced by Hit-Boy, and on wax Sage is the perfect foil for Dev, his disaffected monotone a natural fit next to her sassy sing-rapping. In the video, they’re even more symbiotic as they play house: she’s cooking and making drinks, he’s shirtless doing yard work and filling up the pool. And together, they’ve perfected that deadpan, dead-eyed stare that could only indicate true love.

La La La
Dev returned to the music game in late 2013 with slick Hit-Boy-produced hip-hop/pop anthem “Kiss It” featuring rising MC Sage The Gemini. The video for the quotable club banger drops early next week but the 24-year-old has whipped together a lyric video to tide you over until then.

There’s not a lot going on here. It’s just a photo of lovely photo of Dev with scrolling words but it gives you the opportunity to really savor her classy lyrics. Like this gem: “I have more beers than I’ve shed tears, I don’t even drink” and my personal favorite: “he was more broke than he was a joke”. Dive into the “Like A G6″ singer’s latest hit up top. 7 Questions With Dev: “Kiss It”, Her Comeback EP & Crazy Collaborations

Dev Came, Saw & Conquered Idolator!
After taking a baby break, Dev is back to reclaim her throne as the Queen of rhythmic sing-talking with sassy comeback single “Kiss It”. The sorely-missed songstress has a hot new hip-hop/pop sound and an EP called Bittersweet July due for release in early 2014.

The “Like A G6″ diva dropped by the Idolator studio last week to chat about the second phase of her career. She opened up about working with Hit-Boy, her new tunes and the slew of crazy collaborations she has worked on over the years. Dev is open, honest, foul-mouthed and extremely funny. Watch up top. Dev Teams Up With Mia Martina For The Frankly Nuts “La La… Danse”: Watch

mia-martina
Quirky Doesn't Quite Describe It
Dev has joined forces with an eclectic array of acts in the past (Girls Generation, Eric Saade and JLS to name but three) but the “Kiss It” sass-mistress outdoes herself by adding her trademark sing/rap to Mia Martina‘s bonkers “La La… Danse”.

This quirky floorfiller flushes the rule book down the toilet. It’s a jarring electro-house/trance concoction with a smattering of hip-hop and a booming pop chorus. In short, “La La… Danse” is a hot mess but it somehow comes together through the sheer strength of the dynamic duo’s personality and charisma.

The video is just as nuts. Mia, who impressed earlier in the year with “Heartbreaker”, drives around the streets of Hollywood with a panther before she ends up at a burlesque club where — as fate would have it — she runs into Dev. It’s crazy, kooky and demands multiple views. Watch up top. More »

Dev Returns With Sage The Gemini-Assisted “Kiss It”: Listen To The Sassy Single

Remember Dev? She broke through as the featured vocalist on Far East Movement‘s chart-topper “Like A G6″ before dropping solo hits like “In The Dark” and Enrique Iglesias collaboration “Naked”. Well, after taking a short break to have a baby, the 24-year-old is back with a sarcastic new jam called “Kiss It”.

Produced by Hit-Boy, the snappy hip-hop/pop tune is basically a raised middle finger at her haters. “I wanted my first song off the EP to be a bit sassy, sarcastic and sweet — just like me!” the bass-loving diva shares. “The song is about being burned by people you care about and kissing them goodbye!” She does that by dropping clangers like “I had more beers than I shed tears” and “he was more broke than he was a joke”.

Rising California-based rapper Sage The Gemini lends his distinctive flow to the mix and the staccato beats keep the song bubbling away nicely. “Kiss It” is the first taste of Dev’s Bittersweet July EP, which drops in early 2014. Listen to her sassy comeback after the jump. More »

Doesn't Lollapalooza Look fun.?
This weekend, the music world takes Chicago’s Grant Park by storm with Lollapalooza 2012. So how can such a colossal music fest get even more fun.? Well, a rousing set by the capitalization-averse “We Are Young” rockers couldn’t hurt, while Dev performed and dished to Billboard about her new album.

Meanwhile, Frank Ocean got a bit more poignant at the fest as he introduced “Bad Religion,” referring to his recent coming out: “I guess it’s pretty important to me because of some of the things I said in the last month. Just kind of taking some freedom for myself, taking the fear away.” Catch the performances below. More »

Dev Is 22 And “Hella Pregnant” In Her MTV Reality Show

Watch Video
MTV has already shown the world what it’s like to be 16 And Pregnant, but what is it like to be famous and pregnant? We’ll be “In the Dark” no longer thanks to Dev, who has opened up her life to MTV’s reality cameras in order to document her rise in the music scene, a bit interrupted by an unexpected bun in the oven with her fiance, skateboarder Jimmy Gorecki. Along the way, we’ll also hang with The Cataracts and meet the 22-year-old hot mama’s family, who were also quite young when they had her. (Seriously, Dev’s parents look about the same age she does — especially when guzzling from a beer bong.) Now maybe Dev’s baby can be BFFs with Blue Ivy Carter, since they were both media personalities before even springing from the womb. Dev premieres May 23 on MTV.
