might be the rapper everyone’s talking about this week, but he’s got nothing on The Forbes Five
, a shortlist of the five wealthiest artists in hip-hop compiled by Forbes
. This year’s lucky five fellows (maybe next year, Nicki Minaj
) includes Jay-Z
, Dr. Dre
, 50 Cent
, who comes out on top with a net worth of $550 million. According to Forbes
, he gets that bank by his endorsement deal with Ciroc Vodka, his clothing lines, his marketing firms, his music label, and his tech start-ups. The article makes no mention of his music contributing to his fortune — ouch — but says he could enter billionaire territory when he launches his own TV channel Revolt in 2013. When can we get an updated version of “I Get Money (Forbes 1 2 3 Billionaire Remix)”
with Dre and Birdman dropping a few boastful verses?
sure had a lot of fun at Paris Fashion Week this year — so much fun, in fact, that he’s decided to lay it all bare in an upcoming documentary short. Filmed by French director Julien Bachelet, Paris Is Burning
follows the Bad Boy mogul as he navigates in and out of limos through a storm of paparazzi flashbulbs, layers himself in Rolex watches and hypes a nightclub crowd from a VIP view. But you’ll have to excuse us if we’re not shivering with excitement to see this one-percenter’s report on “What I Did Last Summer.” More »
Thirty-year-old Quamine Taylor certainly overstayed his welcome at Diddy
‘s posh East Hampton mansion earlier this month, specifically because he was never welcome in the first place. The East Hampton Town Police Department arrested the creepy fan on April 1 after he was discovered living it up in the music mogul’s property reportedly wearing Diddy’s clothes, eating his food and drinking his Ciroc. (The trespasser tried something similar in 2001, when he was found swimming in the pool at Diddy’s estate.) More »
The country is going insane right now as the Mega Millions lottery has reached a record-breaking $640 million. We thought we’d celebrate (before making another lottery ticket run) with 11 pop songs about being filthy, stinkin’ rich that had a few lucky numbers of their own, so to speak, when they hit big on Billboard
Hot 100 chart. Jump below to sample the tunes you’ll be having your chauffeur blast through your stretch limo when you hit the jackpot. More »
Last night the Top 10 touring American Idol contestants took on Billy Joel’s all-American songbook. (Sadly, “We Didn’t Start The Fire” wasn’t included.) And who better to mentor the singers during Billy Joel week than … Diddy? (JLo apparently has a thing for working with exes on reality competition shows.) Tommy Hilfiger was also in tow as the style guru, so it was a blown-out episode. Read on to find out who blew up the competition. More »
Today marks the 15-year anniversary of The Notorious B.I.G.’s untimely death, and a decade and a half later his music continues to hypnotize. (Even Britney Spears referenced him on last year’s “Drop Dead Beautiful.”) On March 9, 1997, at age 24, Biggie (real name: Christopher George Latore Wallace) was gunned down in Los Angeles in a drive-by shooting, his killer never apprehended. But the Grammy-nominated “Hypnotize” surged in popularity and hit #1 on the charts, as did his appropriately-titled posthumous album Life After Death. Recall one of the greatest hip hop singles of all time by watching the action-packed video (featuring helicopters, mermaids, and a car chase) below. More »
Have an extra $6,000 lying around? Why not buy some stilettos from Kanye West’s fall/winter collection?
Those of us with slightly less expensive taste, however, will have to content ourselves with merely looking at photos from the runway show at Paris Fashion Week today. In attendance were Diddy (sans his new BFF)
and Alicia Keys (gee, who knew she
was in Paris this week?),
along with non-musicians such as Rosario Dawson and Kim Kardashian (no, “Jam”
doesn’t count as “music”). Let us know if you’d wear any of Kanye’s fashions on Facebook
or in the comments.
We’re not sure exactly what’s been going down after hours at Paris fashion week, but it sure sounds fun (and delicious!). The most killingest pop star on the planet got familiar with bad boy Diddy at Paris fashion week, sitting side-by-side at the Kenzo Ready-To-Wear Fall/Winter 2012 show. However, it seems the real fun took place after hours, judging by Robyn and Diddy’s tweets. The somewhat unlikely duo posted an intentionally-upside-down photo of themselves, along with a pic of them eating authentic French crepes. Yum! See more below. More »
