The Unknown Cover: Who Gave The "Transformers" Theme A Nu-Metal Sheen?

Ain't It Cool News just posted a version of the theme to Transformers that's allegedly going to be on the soundtrack to the Michael Bay multiplex-buster; somehow, it retains none of the fun of the original, unless you think "figuring out which band made a boatload of money by phoning in a crummy early-'00s take on the Transformers theme" is an enjoyable way to spend your day. There's no artist listed on the file, perhaps because the band that put it out is too embarrassed to claim it as theirs, so it's up to you, readers, to figure out who engaged in this cynical cash-in (to be honest, our money's on Cobra Starship): More »

Rock And Roll Road-Tripping Just Got A Whole Lot Easier, Stupider

Someone over at the Chicago Reader must have done a power search for the terms "emo" and "big black monster," because they tracked down this rather amazing eBay item: A 2005 Ford F-550 Crew Cab Powerstroke that doubles as a full-service concert stage. Previously owned by Warped Tour act the Picket Line, the "Big Black Monster" is described as the "ultimate rock band tour truck/van," but it sounds more like the ultimate drunken-fratboy pranking device:

I designed and own the truck and I am selling it to who ever wishes to get instant rock fame with this truck. The truck is designed as a ambush style rock concert. When you roll up in the truck and in less then 15 seconds you can rock out a crowd with 20,000 watts of live music and 20 seconds to break down and leave the scene of the crash. It comes as a fully self-contained rock concert with everything a band can ask for...[Ed. note: We're not even going to try and list all this equipment, as we have no idea what it does, but there is a fog machine involved]. This is the real deal for instant rock fame...

Videodrone: Mistah F.A.B. Ain't Afraid Of No "Ghostbusters" Fans

Forgive us for our second Ghostbusters-related post this week, but we just came around to hearing "Ghost Ride It," Mistah F.A.B.'s Ray Parker Jr.-sampling ode to hood-surfing driverless cars. (Oh Word posted a brief history of Fab's career earlier this week.) The video is full of references to the 1984 film (there's even an Ecto-1 replica), and as you might expect, the reaction from the Ghostbusters message board has been fierce: More »

John Mellencamp's Chevy Song Prepares For Yet Another Backlash

An article in today's Wall Street Journal examines the future of John Mellencamp's "Our Country," which became the official song of Chevrolet in October; Mellencamp's new album, which features the song, is slated for release next month. The long gap between those two events is causing some brow-furrowing among executives at Mellencamp's label: More »

Kanye West Suddenly Cares About Track People

Rapper Kanye West is taking a break from his busy schedule of melting down at awards shows to sponsor a car in the BMW World Finals next week in Valencia, Spain. Alas, his car is lacking in a typically flashy, West-appropriate name. Any suggestions? More »

AC/DC Frontman Causes Pile-Up On British Reality Show

AC/DC screamer Brian Johnson and British R & B singer Ms. Dynamite were involved in a 100-mph crash during taping of The Race, Sky TV's automotive take on Battle Of The Network Stars. Johnson was not injured; Ms. Dynamite was airlifted to a hospital for observation, but her injuries aren't expected to be serious. The accident is the show's second this month—Gary Numan, who was presumably on the show because of his hit single "Cars," got into a scrap with TV presenter Ingrid Tarrant last week. This all seems a little extreme, no? It's enough to make us pine for the days when people just had to come up with stupid fill-in-the-blank answers to stay in the public's eye. More »

Toby Keith Votes Yes On "Amerigasm," No On Sarcasm

keithguitar.jpgA few weeks ago, our hot-rodding pals over at Jalopnik posted an item about country oaf Toby Keith's new ads for Ford trucks. The commercials were so throbbingly patriotic that the 'Niks had to make up a new word just to describe Keith's auto-erotic behavior, and so they accurately noted that he looked as though he was having an "Amerigasm."
