Pharrell kicked off and closed CBS Radio’s “We Can Survive” concert, held October 24 at the Hollywood Bowl. As an unofficial host of sorts (the real host was The Voice‘s Carson Daly), he took it upon himself to remind fans of the event’s cause, to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. “When we sing this next song, I want you to put your best efforts, your prayers, your energy into believing that we can beat this cancer,” he said.
Still, the event’s featured acts made sure to keep the mood light. Taylor Swift performed songs from her new (and soon-to-be-smash) album 1989. Surprise guest Jennifer Lopez stormed Iggy Azalea‘s set for their A.K.A. team-up “Booty.” (She even spanked the rapper’s booty in the process — oh my!) Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, Lady Antebellum and Paramore brought their own respective hits, while to close the concert, Pharrell brought out comeback kid, noted collaborator and fellow Voice coach Gwen Stefani. What a week in pop!
With 1989 just days away, it’s been all Taylor Swift all the time: From “Welcome To New York,” to Target commercials, to secret sessions and everything in between. So! Much! Taylor! But Tay’s not the only artist with new stuff out: Gwen Stefani made her grand comeback with “Baby Don’t Lie”! Plus, Sound Of A Woman siren Kiesza kept us dancing through the week, while Jessie Ware came in for a softer approach on the gorgeous Tough Love.
At the same time, Mariah Carey notched yet another achievement with her current China tour and Jennifer Lopez is all-but-confirmed for Vegas.
Around here, we premiered t.A.T.u. darling Lena Katina‘s “Who I Am” video, celebrated the 20th anniversary of Madonna‘s under-appreciated Bedtime Stories and spoke to Jasmine V and Kiesza. Phew!
As per usual, you guys had plenty to say. Check out the week’s best comments after the jump. More »
Britney Spears, Shania Twain and Celine Dion have been dazzling audiences for months (and years!) now in Las Vegas. Will Jennifer Lopez soon be following suit?
It’s purely speculation at this point, but the “Booty” pop diva was spotted living it up at Brit Brit’s Piece Of Me show and Shania’s showcase at Caesars Palace in Vegas over the weekend, which she attended alongside her manager Benny Medina, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. But was the trip purely for pleasure, or was there some business at hand behind-the-scenes?
A residency could just be a perfect match for the A.K.A. pop veteran, considering her endless run of hit singles and fiercely loyal fanbase. And, considering the fact that Celine and Shania are due to leave town soon, there are some major diva-sized stilettos to be filled — Louboutins, perhaps.
Update: Where there’s smoke, there’s fire: According to a new report from TMZ this morning, Jenny From The Block was indeed in Las Vegas to secure a residency deal, which is being finalized right now — and if the money’s right, she’ll be performing right where Britney’s show is happening at Planet Hollywood!
“Jennifer Lopez is in the final stages of making a deal to perform in Vegas … and according to the contract — obtained by TMZ — she’ll rake in more per show than Britney Spears. Jennifer is being offered a whopping $350,000 per show at The Axis, Planet Hollywood … the same place Britney is performing. Britney is making a paltry $310K a show. But Britney will ultimately score more than JLo because her contract provides she’ll do 96 shows over 2 years. JLo will do 72shows, 3 times a week for 24 weeks over a 1 or 2 year period — the contract leaves that open.”
Assuming the deal does goes through, will you be heading to Vegas to see La Lopez in action? Sound off in the comments below. More »
Fat Joe and Jennifer Lopez show off their assets (including J. Lo’s famously immaculate ass-et) in the most extravagant way possible, for the rapper’s video for “Stressin’.” The frequent collaborators and fellow Bronx natives get super turnt up in a NYC club, as they pop bottles, flash their expensive jewelry and dance on tabletops. It’s the perfect video to kick off your party-filled weekend!
“Stressin’,” produced by Rico Love, is the first single off Fat Joe’s forthcoming as-yet-titled 11th studio album. Watch the “no phucks given”-themed video up top. More »
Pitbull unveiled the cover and November 24 release date of eighth studio LP Globalization yesterday (October 15) but the tracklist is still under wraps. While the full line-up is yet to be announced, Mr. Worldwide shed some light on the matter by revealing the involvement of pop heavyweights Jennifer Lopez, Jason Derulo and Chris Brown on the album.
Other collaborators include dancehall king Sean Paul, producer/artist Wallpaper and rising pop diva Bebe Rexha. Songs that have been confirmed include 2014 FIFA World Cup theme song “We Are One (Ole Ola)”, G.R.L.-assisted pop anthem “Wild Wild Love” and current top 40 smash “Fireball”. Globalization will also feature a new single called “Celebrate (from Penguins of Madagascar)”, lifted from the soundtrack of upcoming animated movie Penguins of Madagascar. I’m ready to be slayed. Fat Joe and Jennifer Lopez reunited once again for their new single, “Stressin’” – nine years after their “Hold You Down” tune from J. Lo’s 2005 LP Rebirth. The song premiered back in August, and now the duo have released the video’s teaser.
Fat Joe uploaded a short preview on his Instagram, which shows he and the Latina diva looking fly in a NYC club, enjoying life and not stressing (obviously). “Stressin’,” produced by Rico Love, is the first single off Fat Joe’s forthcoming 11th studio album. The official video will premiere on Vevo this Friday (October 17).

Jennifer Lopez got everything just right with “Booty”. Roping in Iggy Azalea for a verse was a masterstroke, the cover is a work of art and the eye-popping video deserves multiple Oscars. It’s a relief then that the remix package is also on-point. The Variety cover girl previewed Dj Vice‘s killer overhaul on her Instagram yesterday (October 8) and it sounds epic.
The Los Angeles-based DJ puts a grimy spin on the upbeat club-banger, rearranging the verses — it’s cool to hear Iggy’s rap earlier in the mix — and dirtying up the synths with lashings of trap. It goes extremely hard and will, no doubt, soundtrack club nights and strip shows for years to come. Listen to a preview of the VICE remix after the jump. More »
Jennifer Lopez looks typically stunning on the cover of Variety magazine’s Power Of Women issue. At this point I don’t think it’s even possible to take a bad picture of J.Lo, so let’s just say she looks incredible and leave it at that. The 45-year-old was honored for her work with the Lopez Family Foundation, which aims to improve healthcare for women and children.
I guess we can add philanthropist to the enduring diva’s long list of accomplishments. On the music front, Jennifer recently returned to the upper reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 with Iggy Azalea-assisted club-banger “Booty”. It’s the first song to really click from underrated LP A.K.A., which has already produced two very good singles in the form of “First Love” and “I Luh Ya Papi”. See the full cover after the jump. Hats off to Jennifer Lopez. The pop icon struggled to make a huge dent on the Billboard Hot 100 with the first few singles from extremely underrated LP A.K.A. but she stuck with the project and now has a top 20 hit. The timeless diva debuts at number 18 with Diplo-produced club-banger “Booty”, which benefitted heavily from an eye-popping video with Australian rapper Iggy Azalea.
In fact, 92 percent of its Hot 100 points were due to horny dudes streaming the ass-tastic visual. (The chart points are based on download sales, radio airplay and online streams). While some critics will call this chart-rigging, all’s fair in love and music videos — at least until Billboard changes the rules. Nicki Minaj used a similar ploy to make “Anaconda” a hit, so kudos to J.Lo for being smart enough to follow suit. Revisit the soft porn extravaganza after the jump. More »
