While the future of reality competition shows remains uncertain, American Idol
will return with the same talent from Season 13.
The show is bringing back Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. for its judging panel, along with host Ryan Seacrest. “Their interaction, warmth and experience made them an absolute joy to watch. I can’t wait to see their evolution together continue next season,” Simon Fuller, Idol‘s creator and executive producer, said in a statement.
Next season will not be the last, according to Fox chief Kevin Reilly. However, Idol will be pared down significantly, from 50-plus hours to a neat 37 – an answer to the show’s faltering ratings. Last season’s performance finale drew just 6.6 million viewers, making for the least-watched episode in the show’s history, including at its infancy with Kelly Clarkson facing off Justin Guarini. ‘s relentless A.K.A.
promo campaign continued this morning (June 20) with a knock-out set in New York’s Central Park for GMA
‘s summer concert series. The flawless diva, who also addressed her projected album sales
in an earlier interview
with The Breakfast Club, rocked the stage in a tiny white dress and knee-high boots.
She performed current single “First Love”, which is finally gaining momentum on iTunes, followed by mega-hit “On The Floor” and future floorfiller “Booty”. Jenny killed them all but the latter was an easy highlight due to her frantic twerking and high-camp stage production, which found her being twirled about by shirtless men while seated on a chaise lounge. Watch up top and after the jump. More »
The whole concept of Jennifer Lopez
album is that she’s still the same girl who rode the six and dreamed of finding stardom. If you still question her realness
, take a quick listen to an interview she had with Power 105.1 FM this morning (June 20) where she defends the as-yet underwhelming chart performance of Mariah Carey
‘s Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse
and reacts to the disappointing first-week sales projection
of her own LP.
“Mariah and I, we did what the kids are doing already,” J.Lo begins diplomatically. “You know, we had the time when we would drop a thing and it would go straight to number one and the album would go straight to number one. We did that two, three, four times over. She’s probably done it many more times than even I did.”
“We are in a different time of our career. We are in a different status than the ones who need to prove themselves and come out go ‘my thing has to be number one right now!’ Ours doesn’t have to. We have a fanbase, we have years behind us, we have loyalty, we have people who are interested and that’s a blessing,” she continued. More »
has been on the verge of something very big since signing with Dr. Luke
as a 14-year-old. The bubbly femcee has built a loyal following with cute covers
and Latin-flavored hip-hop/pop jams like Pitbull
-assisted radio hit “Can’t Get Enough”
but she finally has a stone cold smash on her hands with infectious pop anthem “Shower”
The now 17-year-old diva recently dropped by the Idolator studio to talk about the inspiration for “Shower” (a boy has her feeling some type of way) and her relationship with producer/mentor Dr. Luke. Becky also spoke about her eagerly-awaited debut LP and the influence of female rappers like Iggy Azalea. Oh, and she’s also pretty excited about joining Katy Perry‘s Prismatic tour! Watch up top. added another string to her already full bow this morning (June 19) on GMA
. The singer/actress/dancer can now put matchmaker on her resume after successfully reuniting a pair of teenage sweethearts. Steve McCoyne
and Nancy Hamre
started dating in 1989 when they were just 19 and 17, respectively. Things didn’t work out and they fell out of touch until finding each other on Facebook more than a decade later. (See, cyber-stalking your ex can totally pay off!)
The adorable couple has been communicating for some time now but GMA contacted J Lo to help make the reunion happen. After all, she has a new song called “First Love” and knows a thing or two about the rigors of keeping a long-distance romance alive. What follows is a truly heart-warming piece of television that will bring a tear to your eye and make you want to listen to Jenny’s new single on repeat. Watch after the jump. More »
Lana Del Rey
is predicted to land at number one on next week’s Billboard 200 ahead of high-profile new albums by Sam Smith
, Linkin Park
and Jennifer Lopez
. The elegant collection of extremely depressing anthems is expected to sell more than 175,000 copies in its first seven days. That’s a huge improvement on Born To Die
‘s opening bow of 77,000 in early 2012.
The moody diva won’t be the only one popping bottles. Newcomer Sam Smith could have a first-week sales tally in excess of 150,000 with critically-acclaimed debut LP In The Lonely Hour. Rock veterans Linkin Park are also expected to join the six-figure club with a sales prediction of 100,000+ copies for The Hunting Party. Unfortunately, J Lo doesn’t have as much to celebrate. A.K.A. is on track to shift 30,000 — 35,000 units. However, it could have legs if dance anthems “Booty” or “Tens” find love at radio over the summer. More »
Can’t get enough of Jennifer Lopez
‘s extremely good A.K.A.
album? Well, head to the your nearest Target because their exclusive bonus track “Charades” is an absolute gem. (The Roccstar
-produced slow jam is also contained on the Japanese edition of the LP but an impromptu trip to Asia is probably a little harder to organize).
“Break it or buy it, nothing’s for free,” purrs Jenny over slick urban beats. “Especially my body, especially me.” If that opening line hasn’t captured your immediate attention perhaps the angry, confessional lyrics about bad boyfriends (“You think that you’re the only one that ever say you love me when it’s over?) and the smooth, infectious chorus will. Listen to the hypnotic jam after the jump. More »
proved (yet again) that she can pull off bubbly pop with “First Love,”
the Max Martin
-produced single off her new album A.K.A.
(out today, June 17). But when she performed the song during a special Tonight Show
episode in Orlando, one of the last stops of her summer tour
, she blindsided thousands by suddenly turning fierce. “Wait a minute! Band, I wanna dance!” she exclaimed.
And just like that, J. Lo’s flanked by eight male dancers who shuffle, spin, jump, march, step back as she crouches down and flips her hair wildly – you know, as if watching a master at work – and then, to end with a bang, faint at her command. Fallon’s so exhausted from watching it all that that he faints, too.
Lopez’s Tonight Show performance follows her high-profile World Cup performance, her hilarious “Tight Pants” ditty with Fallon himself and, as best as both can recall, a failed attempt for the two of them to dance with Jennifer Lawrence. Watch her perform “First Love” up top, then see her other antics with Fallon after the jump. More »
Did You Hear?
:: Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett surprised students on the last day of class at the Frank Sinatra School of Arts in New York City yesterday. They even performed a duet version of the classic song “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love”. [Walb]
:: Talk about great casting! Execs at Lifetime have chosen rising Disney diva Zendaya to play Aaliyah in a new biopic. It makes sense especially given that her breakthrough hit “Replay” sounded like a lost Baby Girl demo. In a good way. [Vulture]
:: Chris Brown has hit the studio with Justin Bieber to record a collaboration for their loyal fans. This doesn’t sound like a particularly wise move for either of them but there you have it. [Rap-Up]
:: Well, this is kind of sweet. Casper Smart, who has been accused of cheating on Jennifer Lopez with a transgender Instagram model, took it upon himself to plug his famous ex’s new LP A.K.A. online. At least he’s trying. [Radar Online]

One of the biggest surprises on Jennifer Lopez
‘s very good new LP A.K.A.
is dancehall drag anthem “Tens”. Sounding like a cross between Sean Paul
‘s entire discography and RuPaul
‘s iconic “Supermodel Of The World”, the Paris Is Burning
-worthy jam is all about strutting your stuff on the dance floor, runway or anywhere else with a flat surface.
In a perfect world “Tens” would be the next single from A.K.A. but I have a feeling it will have to wait in line behind J.Lo’s “Booty”. (Not such a bad place to be when you think about it). At least Ms. Lopez filmed (part of) a video for it. In the promo clip, we see a diva strut her stuff before Jenny (or someone who looks a lot like her) jumps in the ring and throws it down with spins and general flawlessness. Watch up top. More »
