Kylie Minogue Teases Her Bustling “I Was Gonna Cancel” Video: Watch

A thirty second preview of Kylie Minogue‘s “I Was Gonna Cancel” video surfaced online a couple of days ago and the footage has finally found its way to YouTube. The snippet finds the Australian pop icon singing the song in the middle of a bustling crowd. She previously used the same concept for a much-maligned live performance at the Logies.

There’s nothing fancy about the set-up but the simplicity and retro styling evoke iconic Fever-era visuals like “Come Into My World” and “Love At First Sight”, which is a very good thing. “I Was Gonna Cancel” remains something of a curiosity. The song is cute enough but it’s hard to imagine it being picked as a single without the Pharrell connection. (He produced it). Watch the preview after the jump. More »

Whatcha Say: Katy Perry, Lady Gaga And Jennifer Lopez Got Our Readers Talking

TGIF, Idolator readers! First things first: It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday! Make sure you’re in a motherly state of mind by listening to our playlist of odes from our favorite pop mamas to their babies.

This past week saw the premiere of not one, but two major pop diva world tours — Lady Gaga‘s artRAVE and Katy Perry‘s Prismatic World Tour. Katy’s concert drew some unexpected attention from Gaga, who evidently put aside her #PromoteOnilneKindness campaign briefly to send a subtweet the Prism singer’s way. Naturally, the Twitterverse got all riled up.

Plus, Lily Allen dropped her cheeky, Internet-checking Sheezus, Lana Del Rey casually dropped the tracklisting and cover art for Ultraviolence, and Jennifer Lopez revealed the sultry cover of her upcoming studio album, A.K.A. Speaking of, this week’s Ibrawlator rages on between legendary divas Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey. Have you voted on your favorite album cover between the two yet?

As always, you guys had plenty to say. Check out the week’s best comments below! More »

Rihanna’s Instagram Account Is Still Missing: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Rihanna‘s Instagram account is still missing. I’m not sure why this is news but Billboard went as far as contacting the social media giant for comment. They admit to briefly suspending the account but insist they reactivated it. The rest remains a mystery. [Billboard]

:: This should be taken with a grain of salt (because the original source is a gossip magazine) but Mariah Carey is rumored to be having marital woes with Nick Cannon. Incidentally, they recently celebrated their wedding anniversary. [Pink Is The New Blog]

:: Kylie Minogue is the queen of The Voice. In addition to mentoring contestants on the UK and Australian versions of the show, the Australian pop diva recently appeared on The Voice Italy and performed mega-hit “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”. [Rickey]

:: Our congratulations go out to Enrique Iglesias. The Latin heartthrob just scored his 25th number one hit on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart with “Bailando”. Luis Miguel and Gloria Estefan place second and third with 16 and 16 chart-toppers respectively. [Billboard]

Kylie Minogue’s “Living For Your Loving” Arrives: Listen To The Rapino Brothers-Produced Gem

It’s a great day to be a Kylie Minogue fan. Three previously unreleased demos from her 2007 X LP surfaced online and now someone has casually uploaded “Living For Your Loving” — an almost-mythical track from the diva’s 1993 sessions with the Rapino Brothers — to their YouTube account. (Now I just need “Miles” and “Looking Down On Me” to leak and I can die happy!)

“Living For Your Loving” was recorded for the pop icon’s self-titled 1994 album but, like most of her work with the Italian house producers, it missed the cut. Some of those tracks (“Difficult By Design” and “Gotta Move On”) were later released as part of the Australian superstar’s Hits+ compilation or given to other artists but this breezy slice of soulful ’90s has remained under wraps for the past 21 years. Amazingly, time hasn’t wearied it one iota. Listen to the classy gem after the jump. More »

Kylie Minogue’s “You’re Hot”, “Love Attack” & “Guess” Surface Online: Listen To The ‘X’ Demos

Christmas came early for Kylie Minogue fans today (May 6) with three demos from the diva’s much-loved 2007 LP X surfacing online. “You’re Hot”, “Love Attack” and “Guess” were part of a 49-track, 3-disc CDR sampler that was sent around internally at the pop icon’s record label prior to the album’s release. Most of those songs have stayed under wraps for the past seven years, so this is something of an event.

It’s hard to pick a favorite because they are all adorable in their own way. “Love Attack” is the most quintessentially Kylie of the three with its throbbing synths and camp lyrics (courtesy of the ever-reliable Hannah Robinson). Even in its unfinished form, this is better than half of Kiss Me Once. “You’re Hot” has a smooth retro-R&B vibe albeit with a bubbly pop chorus (“you’re hot, you’re hot and you don’t even know it!”), while “Guess” finds the Australian club queen rapping! (It appears to be an interlude or intro given its meager 1:30 minute running time). Listen to all three gems after the jump. More »

Jennifer Lopez Becomes The First Woman To Receive Billboard’s Icon Award: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the Icon Award at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. She is only the fourth recipient and first woman to nab the prize. The stunning diva will also perform new single “First Love” at the event on May 18. [Rap-Up]

:: In news that will surprise absolutely no one, Kylie Minogue would really like to record a duet with Madonna. She said as much in a Reddit Q&A yesterday (May 5), so hopefully someone makes this happen ASAP. [Reddit]

:: Alanis Morissette released new music today but you won’t hear it on the radio. She wrote and released “Today” as the official campaign song for Marianne Williamson‘s run at congress. It’s actually kind of catchy for a political anthem. [MarianneForCongress]

:: Pride events in New York and Los Angeles just got a whole lot more fabulous with news that Demi Lovato will perform at the festivals in June. “I have been an active advocate of the LGBT community and am wholly committed to supporting individuality and being comfortable in one’s own skin,” said the superstar. When Pop Divas Collide: Kylie Minogue, Dannii Minogue And Paula Abdul Mingle At The Logies

Kylie Minogue and Paula Abdul finally spent some quality time together at Sunday night’s (April 27) Logie Awards, which is the Australian equivalent of the People’s Choice Awards. The pop icons’ careers have overlapped several times throughout the years, so it was nice to see them in the same room together.

The twists of fate that link the lovely ladies? Well, Paula co-wrote Kylie’s career-reviving 2000 hit “Spinning Around”. That song returned the Kiss Me Once songbird to number one on the Australian and UK singles chart after a lengthy absence. Interestingly, the “Straight Up” songstress attempted her own comeback in 2009 by releasing “I’m Just Here For The Music” — a song Ms. Minogue demoed for her 2003 LP Body Language.

Kylie and Paula were joined by fellow club queen Dannii Minogue and the timeless trio hammed it up backstage at the event. See their adorable social media pictures after the jump. More »

Kylie Minogue’s “I Was Gonna Cancel” Gets A Wonderfully Fluffy Moto Blanco Remix: Listen

Here’s the perfect way to kick off your Friday night! The remix package for Kylie Minogue‘s “I Was Gonna Cancel” has arrived and there’s something for everyone. While it’s hard to top The Presetsepic overhaul, Rinse resident KDA and rising Dutch DJ Rene Amesz come close with their big-room bangers. Oh, and let’s not forget the fine Maze & Masters mix.

And if your taste in dance music is a little more commercial? Don’t worry, Kylie has you covered too. The ever-reliable English duo Moto Blanco transform her Pharrell-penned single into a thumping house anthem that will, no doubt, be on high rotation in gay bars from Brisbane to Boston. Sure, it occasionally veers towards the cheesier side of EDM but you’ll be having too much fun to care. Listen after the jump. More »

Kylie Minogue Previews “Crystallize” On Instagram: Listen To A Snippet Of The Shimmery Club Anthem

Another day, another great Kylie Minogue anthem that was omitted from Kiss Me Once. “Golden Boy” was released on limited edition 7″ vinyl yesterday (April 20) to celebrate Record Store Day and today the pop icon teased a brief snippet of “Crystallize”, which she is releasing in May to raise money for her One Note Against Cancer campaign.

The concept is fascinating. Fans can bid on one of the 4408 notes contained in “Crystallize” via eBay and the winners will get their names included in the song’s video credits as well as a certificate of ownership and the satisfaction of knowing they helped a great cause. As for the song? It sounds like an absolute winner.

Co-written by Dev Hynes and Scissor Sisters‘ sex symbol Babydaddy, the charity single sounds like a light and airy club anthem that wouldn’t sound out of place on the diva’s iconic Fever album. Her breathy vocal (“you only have to turn my way”) is cradled by sexy synths that beckon you to the dance floor. It’s a mystery why two of the best songs from the Kiss Me Once era got the chop but you will soon be able to make one hell of an iTunes playlist. Listen to a snippet after the jump. More »
