Austin Mahone Thinks It’s Obnoxious To Compare Him To Justin Bieber: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Austin Mahone thinks it’s obnoxious to compare him to Justin Bieber. “You don’t know me,” he said in a recent interview. “You don’t know my music. You’re just making assumptions.” Fighting words! [MTV]

:: A man and a woman have been arrested for breaking into Miley Cyrus‘ home and stealing her car and jewelry. Police recognized them from security footage while they were taking a stroll in North Hollywood. [TMZ]

:: Kylie Minogue fans will, no doubt, be able to recite Jazzi P‘s rap on ’90s classic “Shocked” by heart. The femcee seemingly fell off the face of the earth but she has resurfaced as a contestant on Big Brother UK. Time for a comeback? [Digital Spy]

:: Some people have more money than sense. A replica of Kanye West‘s mustard stained polo short is now selling for the not-so-bargain price of $400. And people are actually buying it. Go figure. [Daily Mail]

Kylie Minogue’s “Crystallize”: Watch The Video For The Cancer Charity Single

Kylie Minogue Crystallize music video
You won’t find Kylie Minogue‘s new song “Crystallize” on her recently-released album Kiss Me Once, but you will see all the names of those who donated to One Note For Cancer at the end of the clip. The track is a tie-in with the cancer charity, and Kylie got fans involved by having them bid on eBay for one of all 4408 notes contained in “Crystallize.” The final three minutes of the video show the generous bidders’ names scrolling by.

In the first bit of the visual, however, we see not one diva, but two, as Kylie appears as a guardian pop angel of sorts, watching over a young girl who twirls around her bedroom doing the old hairbrush/microphone schtick. It’s of course a far more toned-down video than Kylie’s recent sensual clips for  “Into The Blue” and “Sexercize.” More »

Kylie Minogue And Lily Allen Hung Out At The Cannes Film Festival

Kylie Minogue and Lily Allen are both on the promo trail for new LPs (Kiss Me Once and Sheezus, respectively). The quest for headlines brought the ladies to the Cannes film festival, where they are doing interviews, performing — at least in the “I Was Gonna Cancel” diva’s case — and generally hanging out and being fabulous.

The pop sirens posed for a happy snap at an event, which Lily later shared on her Instagram. The caption had lots of love hearts, so they obviously got along famously. They really should do a track together. Perhaps the Brit can talk/rap on Kylie’s next single? She would be awesome on “Les Sex”. See their glamorous party pic after the jump. More »

Whatcha Say: Solange, Beyonce and Mariah Carey Got Our Readers Talking

It’s Friday, Idolator readers! And what an unexpected week in pop it was, right Solange‘s shocking assault of Jay Z in an elevator with Bey made the Internet explode on Monday, followed by the memes and Twitter detective work by the BeyHive. (And then the family made a statement and now everything is back to normal. Right?!)

But it wasn’t all about elevators and high kicks: King of Pop himself Michael Jackson returned with his all-around great posthumous record Xscape, Glee wrapped up for the season and Danity Kane made a thirst-quenching return with their new single, “Lemonade.” Plus, Sheezus herself Lily Allen dropped by the Idolator studio and made her first TV performance in America in ages. (Also, have you entered to win a copy of Sheezus yet?)

As always, you guys had plenty to say. Check out the week’s best comments below! More »

Kylie Minogue’s “I Was Gonna Cancel” Video Is Literally Pedestrian: Watch

Kylie In A Crowd
Kylie Minogue has delivered some of the most memorable and innovative videos in the history of popular music but “I Was Gonna Cancel” is not one of them. The flawless diva simply stands in a bustling crowd of people and makes jerky hand movements while looking generally adorable. There is, however, a thoughtful explanation for the seemingly bizarre concept.

“This video is an abstract look at pedestrian life and how we’re all just trying to get through and rise above everyday challenges,” Kylie explains. “Although the song talks about a real life event that happened the day I recorded the song with Pharrell, the video has a more conceptual approach and I love how surreal it looks.” Fair enough. Watch up top. More »

Kylie Minogue Teases Her Bustling “I Was Gonna Cancel” Video: Watch

A thirty second preview of Kylie Minogue‘s “I Was Gonna Cancel” video surfaced online a couple of days ago and the footage has finally found its way to YouTube. The snippet finds the Australian pop icon singing the song in the middle of a bustling crowd. She previously used the same concept for a much-maligned live performance at the Logies.

There’s nothing fancy about the set-up but the simplicity and retro styling evoke iconic Fever-era visuals like “Come Into My World” and “Love At First Sight”, which is a very good thing. “I Was Gonna Cancel” remains something of a curiosity. The song is cute enough but it’s hard to imagine it being picked as a single without the Pharrell connection. (He produced it). Watch the preview after the jump. More »

Whatcha Say: Katy Perry, Lady Gaga And Jennifer Lopez Got Our Readers Talking

TGIF, Idolator readers! First things first: It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday! Make sure you’re in a motherly state of mind by listening to our playlist of odes from our favorite pop mamas to their babies.

This past week saw the premiere of not one, but two major pop diva world tours — Lady Gaga‘s artRAVE and Katy Perry‘s Prismatic World Tour. Katy’s concert drew some unexpected attention from Gaga, who evidently put aside her #PromoteOnilneKindness campaign briefly to send a subtweet the Prism singer’s way. Naturally, the Twitterverse got all riled up.

Plus, Lily Allen dropped her cheeky, Internet-checking Sheezus, Lana Del Rey casually dropped the tracklisting and cover art for Ultraviolence, and Jennifer Lopez revealed the sultry cover of her upcoming studio album, A.K.A. Speaking of, this week’s Ibrawlator rages on between legendary divas Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey. Have you voted on your favorite album cover between the two yet?

Rihanna’s Instagram Account Is Still Missing: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Rihanna‘s Instagram account is still missing. I’m not sure why this is news but Billboard went as far as contacting the social media giant for comment. They admit to briefly suspending the account but insist they reactivated it. The rest remains a mystery. [Billboard]

:: This should be taken with a grain of salt (because the original source is a gossip magazine) but Mariah Carey is rumored to be having marital woes with Nick Cannon. Incidentally, they recently celebrated their wedding anniversary. [Pink Is The New Blog]

:: Kylie Minogue is the queen of The Voice. In addition to mentoring contestants on the UK and Australian versions of the show, the Australian pop diva recently appeared on The Voice Italy and performed mega-hit “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”. [Rickey]

:: Our congratulations go out to Enrique Iglesias. The Latin heartthrob just scored his 25th number one hit on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart with “Bailando”. Luis Miguel and Gloria Estefan place second and third with 16 and 16 chart-toppers respectively. [Billboard]

Kylie Minogue’s “Living For Your Loving” Arrives: Listen To The Rapino Brothers-Produced Gem

It’s a great day to be a Kylie Minogue fan. Three previously unreleased demos from her 2007 X LP surfaced online and now someone has casually uploaded “Living For Your Loving” — an almost-mythical track from the diva’s 1993 sessions with the Rapino Brothers — to their YouTube account. (Now I just need “Miles” and “Looking Down On Me” to leak and I can die happy!)

“Living For Your Loving” was recorded for the pop icon’s self-titled 1994 album but, like most of her work with the Italian house producers, it missed the cut. Some of those tracks (“Difficult By Design” and “Gotta Move On”) were later released as part of the Australian superstar’s Hits+ compilation or given to other artists but this breezy slice of soulful ’90s has remained under wraps for the past 21 years. Amazingly, time hasn’t wearied it one iota. Listen to the classy gem after the jump. More »
