and Paula Abdul
finally spent some quality time together at Sunday night’s (April 27) Logie Awards, which is the Australian equivalent of the People’s Choice Awards. The pop icons’ careers have overlapped several times throughout the years, so it was nice to see them in the same room together.
The twists of fate that link the lovely ladies? Well, Paula co-wrote Kylie’s career-reviving 2000 hit “Spinning Around”. That song returned the Kiss Me Once songbird to number one on the Australian and UK singles chart after a lengthy absence. Interestingly, the “Straight Up” songstress attempted her own comeback in 2009 by releasing “I’m Just Here For The Music” — a song Ms. Minogue demoed for her 2003 LP Body Language.
Kylie and Paula were joined by fellow club queen Dannii Minogue and the timeless trio hammed it up backstage at the event. See their adorable social media pictures after the jump. More »
Here’s the perfect way to kick off your Friday night! The remix package for Kylie Minogue
‘s “I Was Gonna Cancel”
has arrived and there’s something for everyone. While it’s hard to top The Presets
‘ epic overhaul
and rising Dutch DJ Rene Amesz
come close with their big-room bangers. Oh, and let’s not forget the fine Maze & Masters
And if your taste in dance music is a little more commercial? Don’t worry, Kylie has you covered too. The ever-reliable English duo Moto Blanco transform her Pharrell-penned single into a thumping house anthem that will, no doubt, be on high rotation in gay bars from Brisbane to Boston. Sure, it occasionally veers towards the cheesier side of EDM but you’ll be having too much fun to care. Listen after the jump. More »
Another day, another great Kylie Minogue
anthem that was omitted from Kiss Me Once
. “Golden Boy”
was released on limited edition 7″ vinyl
yesterday (April 20) to celebrate Record Store Day and today the pop icon teased a brief snippet of “Crystallize”, which she is releasing in May to raise money for her One Note Against Cancer
The concept is fascinating. Fans can bid on one of the 4408 notes contained in “Crystallize” via eBay and the winners will get their names included in the song’s video credits as well as a certificate of ownership and the satisfaction of knowing they helped a great cause. As for the song? It sounds like an absolute winner.
Co-written by Dev Hynes and Scissor Sisters‘ sex symbol Babydaddy, the charity single sounds like a light and airy club anthem that wouldn’t sound out of place on the diva’s iconic Fever album. Her breathy vocal (“you only have to turn my way”) is cradled by sexy synths that beckon you to the dance floor. It’s a mystery why two of the best songs from the Kiss Me Once era got the chop but you will soon be able to make one hell of an iTunes playlist. Listen to a snippet after the jump. More »
As is often the case, hindsight is 20/20, and this has several Kylie Minogue
fans pondering why scrapped Kiss Me Once
track “Golden Boy” — once destined to be a Japanese bonus track — was relegated to a Record Store Day-only release, on single-sided 7″ vinyl. The global holiday for customers to show their support for brick and mortar music retailers came and went this past Saturday (April 19), and a few of those lucky enough to get their hands on the Kylie 7″ (there were only 1000 copies pressed) popped the tune online.
Give bright dance-pop gem “Golden Boy” a listen below, and see if you think it could have replaced any of the tracks that did make the cut for Minogue’s Kiss Me Once LP. More »
Did You Hear?
:: Aaron Paul crashed Arcade Fire‘s Coachella set and nobody noticed. The Breaking Bad actor scuttled across the stage dressed as the pope — complete with a giant bobble head. He later posed for pics with Ellie Goulding. [Spin]
:: Dying to check out Jay Z‘s Made In America music festival but can’t afford to trek all the way to Philadelphia? Good news. Hov is bringing the event to Los Angeles, so you now have your choice of venue. [Billboard]
:: Kylie Minogue‘s outrageous “Sexercize” video starred a bunch of scantily clad women but out pop singer Mike Munich has turned the tables, recreating the opus with a bunch of buff dudes. It’s semi-NSFW so be careful where you watch it. [Same Same]
:: This is really sweet. Lorde finally got to meet George Brett, the baseball legend that inspired her career-making hit “Royals”. He had earlier sent her a signed jersey with the message “Lorde, you are a royal to me”. Aww. [Consequence Of Sound]

‘s Kiss Me Once
promo blitz continues with a stunning Australian Vogue
cover shoot. The pop icon literally glows in the gorgeous photo thanks to the her metallic bodice, the golden lighting and her flawless complexion. It’s hard to believe that the veteran kicked off her mega-successful recording career in 1987 because she looks half her age.
When she’s not holding a master class on how to pose for magazine covers, Kylie is still busily working on her Kiss Me Once campaign. Pharrell-produced second single “I Was Gonna Cancel” drops May 12 and she has already commissioned a mind-blowing remix by Aussie electro-pioneers The Presets. See another pic from the diva’s Vogue shoot after the jump. More »
surprised a lot of people by picking “I Was Gonna Cancel”
as the second single from Kiss Me Once
. The Pharrell
connection (he produced it) is an obvious selling point but the subtle mid-tempo jam is the most obvious choice. Happily, a dark and dangerous electro-house remix by The Presets
makes the diva’s decision a lot easier to swallow.
The Australian duo completely deconstruct Pharrell’s retro-R&B flavored pop anthem, transforming it into a sprawling floorfiller that throbs with sinister synths and new vocal hooks (for example: “go, go, go girl!”). It’s a radical improvement on the original and a reminder of how good Kylie sounds when she opts for a harder dance sound. Let’s hope this remix gets a radio edit. Listen after the jump. More »
:: Kylie Minogue
has been labelled a thief (!) by English girl band Atomic Kitten
. They claim that the Aussie diva’s global hit “Can’t Get You Out Of My head” was actually intended for them. Tough luck? [Digital Spy
:: This is sad. Big Sean and Naya Rivera have reportedly called off their engagement and taken to Twitter to beef about who gets what. The Glee starlet has accused the MC of stealing jewelry from her house. Not exactly a fairytale ending then. [TMZ]
:: Here’s something for the sports fans. Drake is the surprise host of the 2014 ESPYs, which will be telecast live from Los Angeles on July 16. The MC is a good choice. After all, he’s the global ambassador of the Toronto Raptors. [Rolling Stone]
:: Missed Jay Z‘s Made In America documentary when it screened at the Toronto Film Festival or, later, on Showtime? Well, you’re in luck. Hov’s movie is coming to DVD in May. [AllHipHop]

is on a golden hot streak
, having landed in the upper reaches of the charts worldwide over the past year with three tracks — that would be Daft Punk
‘s “Get Lucky,” Robin Thicke
‘s “Blurred Lines”
and Williams’ own “Happy.”
And so it makes complete sense for Kylie Minogue
to strike while the iron is red hot with her own Kiss Me Once
cut written and produced by the musical man of the hour.
Kylie’s lyric video for “I Was Gonna Cancel” just premiered, and it keeps with her album artwork’s theme of splashed water on glass and bright, splashy pop dazzle. Give the neon-lit clip a watch above. More »
Happy Friday, Idolator readers! This week was full of pop highs and lows — from Kesha
