Let’s hope it’s third time lucky for Nicole Scherzinger in the US. Her first album, the near-mythological Her Name Is Nicole, was scrapped entirely and official debut Killer Love never reached our shores despite spawning a couple of great singles. (“Don’t Hold Your Breath” is still near-flawless pop). She is now signed to Epic Records and they are going full steam ahead with new LP Big Fat Lie.
However, instead of releasing summery club-banger “Your Love” or mid-tempo break-up anthem “On The Rocks”, Nicole has opted for The-Dream and Tricky Stewart-produced power ballad “Run” to spearhead her American campaign. And it could turn out to be a masterstroke. The song, which impacts radio on October 6, is gorgeous and could have broader radio appeal than her previous singles. After scrapping five albums worth of material, Nicole Scherzinger is finally ready to unleash her sophomore/debut LP (depending on where you live). It’s called Big Fat Lie and boasts an extraordinarily sexy cover, which finds the thinking man’s Beyonce — just go with it — tussling her hair and rocking chunky jewelry that screams early Janet Jackson. I love it.
There’s no US release date yet but the album drops October 20 in the UK. The former Pussycat Doll unveiled the standard tracklist earlier today (September 16) in a crossword puzzle but the pre-order link (only for UK residents unfortunately) includes three bonus tracks as well as the videos for singles “Your Love” and “On The Rocks”. Get ready for the new era to begin, Killer Lovers: Nicole Scherzinger has just unveiled the tracklisting for her brand new LP.
It’s surely been a long and bumpy ride for the former Pussycat Doll-turned-solo starlet following the release of 2011 debut Killer Love, from her 2013 one-off “Boomerang” to her Summer ’14 breezy Top 10 smash “Your Love” to the oddly tepid “On The Rocks.” And then, out of nowhere, a powerful ballad called “Run” surfaced on French radio over the weekend. But what does it all add up to? A new album!
Today, the songstress revealed the song titles from her follow-up album on Instagram with the help of a fun crossword puzzle for fans. So, what hot new jamz do we have to look forward to? Find out after the jump. More »
How do you solve a problem like Nicole Scherzinger
without reforming the Pussycat Dolls
? The stunning diva has already delivered two great singles
from her as-yet-untitled sophomore LP and they have both failed to click in key markets despite having suitably sexy videos
and A-List collaborators
and Tricky Stewart
It’s frustrating because the 36-year-old is a true rarity in the pop world in that she can actually sing and dance. Hopefully, she’ll have more luck with “Run” — a beautifully understated ballad that just premiered on French radio. Nicole’s voice soars over a simple piano arrangement and the lyrics are genuinely heartfelt. Listen to the PCD singer’s next roll of the dice after the jump. More »

had us cheerfully doo-doo-doo-da-doo-ing
along to her catchy UK summer smash “Your Love” for months on end, which is what her selection for Single #2 from her forthcoming album, “On The Rocks,” that much more of a downer.
The Tricky and The-Dream-helmed electro-R&B ballad is undoubtedly emotional, although it doesn’t quite pack the same punch as her previous forays into pop power balladry, from the incredible “Don’t Hold Your Breath” to her unreleased (but still amazing) “Pretty.” All that being said, the video has arrived! spent her Labor Day (September 1) sailing around Ibiza on a yacht. It presented the perfect opportunity for her to model a sexy striped bikini and ramp up the hype for her new single “On The Rocks”
, which everyone seems to hate apart from me. I mean, she sings about photoshopping her ex out of pictures. What’s not to love?
Apart from looking ridiculously good and releasing great songs that haven’t performed as well as they should have, Nicole has been busy putting the finishing touches on her sophomore LP. It was entirely produced by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart and will be released in the US via Epic Records. There’s no word yet if “On The Rocks” is the official lead single over here but it seems likely. See the former Pussycat Dolls diva’s bikini beautiful pics after the jump. More »
In a recent interview with Digital Spy
, lead Pussycat Doll
-turned-solo chanteuse Nicole Scherzinger
described the “Nicole sound” as “midtempo, supercool, super-vibey, some of it’s a little throwback to Janet Jackson Velvet Rope
and some of it has early essences of Sadé
, but it’s current.” Erm, well…
“On The Rocks” is Scherzy’s follow-up to her immediately catchy “Your Love,” and — let’s just say, “current” isn’t exactly the term I’d use to describe this curiously Auto-Tuned-to-oblivion R&B ballad (especially that T-Pain-like bridge), which sounds something like a B-side to Kelly Rowland‘s “Rose Colored Glasses.”
“Let’s take a shot, since you been takin’ shots/And allow me to serve you this drink on the rocks,” she croons across the chorus. Listen to “On The Rocks” after the jump. More »
Happy Friday, Idolator readers! Are you ready for your pop knowledge quiz? Let’s review what happened this week, shall we?
All eyes were on Taylor Swift as the country-pop diva held a Yahoo live-stream to reveal details about her fifth studio album 1989, which will be released in October. Tay also premiered her Max Martin/Shellback-produced single “Shake It Out” as well as the track’s dorky video. What’s more, Nicki Minaj dropped her jungle-themed, sweaty and ass-tastic visual for “Anaconda,” Scottish beatsmith Calvin Harris previewed a clip of “Blame” with British crooner John Newman, and Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett shared their tracklist for their jazz album, Cheek To Cheek.
Here on Idolator, we premiered Benny Benassi’s latest single “Shooting Helicopters” with System of a Down’s Serj Tankian and, in lieu of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, held our first-ever glamour-filled Idolator Floppy Awards.
As always, you guys had plenty to say. Read the week’s best comments below! More »
is bringing out the big guns for her “On The Rocks” cover art. The former-Pussycat Doll
unveiled the seductive image, which finds the gorgeous diva rocking a plunging white dress, on Instagram
today (August 18). However, it’s not so much her beach-appropriate outfit that will raise eyebrows. It’s the provocative pose (above).
Once you’ve collected yourself, let’s talk about “On The Rocks”. It’s the second taste of the 36-year-old’s still-untitled sophomore set, which was entirely produced The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. Lead single “Your Love” wasn’t a huge success internationally (it did peak at number six in the UK), so there’s a lot riding on this anthem. I’m ready to be slayed. More »
