So Fall Out Boy is taking a break. Or maybe they aren’t, and it’s really just a sugar-coated break-up? They’re denying it’s anything of the sort, so we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but in the meantime we have a few suggestions for how Pete, Patrick & Co. should invest their free time: More »
Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump was arrested in the wee hours of the California morning for driving without a valid license, and shortly after being sprung from the pokey (on $15,000 bail) he had this to say to MTV: “All I really have to say is ignorance of the law isn’t innocence. I didn’t want to give up my Illinois driver’s license and was unaware that was a crime. It is, by the way, in the state of California. Lesson learned. I technically broke a law, so technically I deserve whatever I get. But man, is my mom gonna be pissed.” The charge is a misdemeanor, and the penalties could range from him paying a $1,000 fine to probation to up to six months in the county lockup. Oh, paperwork. Idolator emeritus Jess Harvell forwarded me the news of a teeny slice of the performance royalties for the late Jermaine Stewart’s 1986 anti-sex, pro-cherry-wine screed “We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off” being up for auction with the subject line “Finally, Idolator can have the theme song it’s always deserved.” (Although maybe he was referring to Gym Class Heroes’ Patrick Stump-featuring, Stewart-interpolating “Clothes Off!,” which also will have a similar part of itself on the auction block next month? Regardless.) Anyway, with a minimum bid of $1,000 (plus fees), I don’t think that either track’s theme-song status is going to be elevated to anything more than “honorary.” But it’s still a good enough excuse to post embeds of both tracks, and a note about the math involved in the transaction. The video for “Open Happiness,” the Coca-Cola-sponsored collaboration between Cee-Lo, Janelle Monae, Fall Out Boy lead singer Patrick Stump, Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie, and Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, debuted this morning, and it presents us with a fantastical world in which Urie is reporting the news, Stump is piloting a fishy helicopter, and Monae is teaching the kids of the world how to be more like her (a fine development, if you ask me). There’s also a sly shout-out to Teletubbies, whose super-saturated landscape is very reminiscent of all the colorful joy ping-ponging around the screen here. Clip after the jump. More »
In other Fall Out Boy-related news, the video for “Open Happiness”—the Coca-Cola-boosting track featuring Fall Out Boy lead singer Patrick Stump alongside Janelle Monae, Panic! At The Disco’s Brendon Urie, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, and Cee-Lo Green—premieres Thursday after a very long roll-out. In advance of its premiere, the people behind the fizzy beverage have released a behind-the-scenes video in which Stump discusses his ability to put his lips together and blow. Also, there are oranges being thrown around. More »
