In the above clip, former American Idol Sanjaya Malakar gets told that Ellen DeGeneres is the newest addition to the American Idol judges’ table while he and his hair hang out backstage and listen to… thrash? Eh, perhaps they use that particular strand of music to get super-pumped, since Sanjaya about jumps out of his sofa once the news is broken to him. [Rickey] More »

sanjaya_eliminatedFormer American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar–the ponyhawked crooner who is probably one of the reasons that Simon Cowell is looking to abandon the States at the end of this season–will be returning to prime-time TV this summer, when he appears on the “celebrities trapped in the jungle” show I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! MTV-spawned Barbie impersonator Heidi Montag will apparently be a member of the cast as well, thus opening the door for the two aspiring “singers” to get their duet on. More »

If the news that crazy-haired American Idol also-ran Sanjaya Malakar was finally releasing his first EP, the singer also has a book about himself and his time on Idol. Thankfully, the fine people at ABC News have offered an extended excerpt from Dancing To The Music In My Head, so as to spare you some of the effort of thumbing through its 256 pages in a cafe at Borders with zero intent of purchasing it.

Given that this was the haircut that rocked the world (or, at least, the living room of my old apartment) nearly 18 months ago, I kind of had to post this Nationwide ad starring Sanjaya Malakar, who’s following in the footsteps of luminaries like Kevin Federline and MC Hammer as a pitchman for the… More »

Whoever’s running the American Idol Web sites must have gotten wind that Sanjaya’s fans were not happy with Carly Smithson telling the show’s online staff that her favorite Idol moment of the past six seasons was watching Sanjaya and his hairstyles get the boot; the answer to that question in her… More »

Carly Smithson Continues To Win Hearts And Minds Of Internet-Savvy “Idol” Fans Everywhere

sanjaya_eliminated.jpgMy increasing–yet still grudging!–affection for Carly Smithson increased a little just now, when I found out that while other contestants said in their latest Idol questionnaires that their favorite moments of the show were their admission to the top 24 (Asia’h, who should enjoy it while she can) and Idol Gives Back (Luke, who… ugh), she selected as her favorite the night that Sanjaya Malakar got voted off last season. Say what you will about her past; Carly certainly knows how to rile up the bloggers and message-board posters who decried her eligibility because of the major-label flop she put out a few years back. And it’s kind of awesome. An example: There are 94 comments about Carly’s flippant answer on Idolwatcher haven/Fanjaya gathering-place rickey.org already, spurred on by the very-displeased site proprietor Rickey:

Audiences Perfectly Content To Let “American Idol” Live In Their Memories

AP070812018755.jpgThe promise of seeing Sanjaya Malakar’s hair up-close is tantalizing (seriously, what I would give to have curls like that–here’s hoping he’s working on a hair product line), but apparently it’s not enough to get butts into seats on this summer’s “American Idols Live!” tour. Ticket sales have been soft, with only one date–the show in Idol champ Jordin Sparks’ hometown of Glendale, Ariz.–even approaching the sellout mark. USA Today breaks down the year-to-year decline:
