Selena Gomez took everyone by surprise with new single “The Heart Wants What It Wants”. The Rock Mafia-produced slow jam dropped with little warning yesterday (November 6) and shot straight to number two on iTunes. (Only One Direction‘s latest “Ready To Run” could block it from the top spot). Pretty impressive for a raw ballad about a destructive relationship but it got off to an even better start on radio.
According to Mediabase, “The Heart Wants What It Wants” reportedly reached an audience of 10.061 million people on its first day at radio. Doesn’t sound too impressive? To put things into perspective, Miley Cyrus‘ “Wrecking Ball” was heard by six million folks on debut. The Justin Bieber-referencing anthem also racked up five million+ YouTube views in its first 24 hours. Selena’s greatest hits album For You, which completes her stint at Hollywood Records, drops November 24. More »
Christmas came early for Selenators today (November 6) when their holy queen unexpectedly premiered new single “Heart Wants What It Wants” and then dropped the classy, black-and-white video. Selena Gomez now reveals the contemplative cover of greatest hits collection For You and sheds a little more light on the album’s already announced tracklist.
For starters, we now have the full songwriting credits for “Heart Wants What It Wants”. The Justin Bieber-referencing mid-tempo ballad was penned by Sel (with a little help from Rock Mafia and David Jost). Also, fans were also wondering about the somewhat random inclusion of Stars Dance album track “Forget Forever”. It turns out it’s a brand new remix, so I guess I can overlook the hurtful omission of “Hit The Lights”! More »
Better settle in on November 23, because this year’s broadcast of the American Music Awards is going to be the longest show ever. Well…judging by the ever-expanding roster of performers, anyway.
In addition to previously announced acts like Taylor Swift, One Direction, Sam Smith, Mary J Blige and 5 Seconds Of Summer, newly returned “The Heart Wants What It Wants” chanteuse Selena Gomez, Garth Brooks and Imagine Dragons will all be hitting the stage, too. The acts also join the ranks alongside host and performer Pitbull (dale!), as well as Lorde and Fergie. Will there even be any awards given out?!
In any case, we’re pumped to see all these performers hitting the stage during the same show. Who are you most excited to see? Sound off in the comments below. More »
We’ve known about her “secret project” for months, and after many, many weeks of teasing, Stars Dance diva Selena Gomez has finally returned with the first taste of new music from her forthcoming greatest hits compilations, For You (out November 24) — and it packs one hell of an emotional punch.
Kicking off with a quivering voice recording, the track seems to chronicle Selena’s notoriously rocky on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber, crooning sadly above a slow tripping, finger snapping beat. (Gone is any trace of the EDM that colored Stars Dance!) “There’s a million reasons why I should give you up…but the heart wants what it wants,” she sings along the chorus. The accompanying video sees Selena cuddling up with a beau, looking conflicted and emotionally tearing up in front of the camera. This is a more mature, more vulnerable Selena than ever before — it’ll be interesting to see the response (and read all the relationship conspiracy theories), to say the least. Selena Gomez is the most retweeted, liked and followed woman on the planet right now, as evidenced by her number one ranking on Billboard’s Social 50 chart. It goes without saying, therefore, that anything she throws on Instagram will be scrutinized for any hidden meaning. Like the mysterious caption that accompanied the flawless black-and-white pic she posted yesterday (November 4).
“But I can’t imagine, a life without, breathless moments, breaking me down,” Sel shared with her 17 million+ followers. Could these be lyrics to the Stars Dance diva’s much-anticipated comeback single “Heart Wants What It Wants”? The November hashtag strongly suggests it. The song doesn’t have a release date yet but we know it was produced by Rock Mafia and features on her greatest hits album For You (due November 24). Selena Gomez‘s November comeback arrived a day early thanks to a slip-up from Amazon France. They confirmed that the much-missed diva’s greatest hits album is indeed called For You and even posted the tracklist. Whoops! The 15-song set includes a couple of surprise omissions (where are iconic anthems “Hit The Lights” and “Bang Bang Bang”?) and odd inclusions (goodbye at “Forget Forever” making the cut) but, over all, it’s pretty spot on.
Most excitingly, there are two (or possibly three) new tracks. “Heart Wants What It Wants” is being bandied around online as For You‘s lead single — a video has already been filmed for it — but there’s also a new collaboration with Rock Mafia called “Do It”. I can’t place “Mas” either but I’m wondering if it’s a Spanish language version of another song that has already been released. We’ll know soon enough. The album is pegged for a November 24 release. The great Selena Gomez drought of 2014 is almost over! The 22-year-old drove her fans into a frenzy this morning (October 30) by writing two simple words in her Instagram bio: “Next month.” It’s still not clear what exactly is coming in November but it’s a safe bet that her Hollywood Records swan song — a greatest hits collection to fulfill her contract — will be part of the diva’s comeback.
But that’s not all. There are also persistent rumors that Selena has signed on for another television show, which could also be announced soon. And then there are those mysterious pics from a desert location that keep popping up on her Insta. Are they from a fashion shoot or is she giving us a behind-the-scenes glimpse at one of her new projects? Whatever the case may be, the speculation has her social channels humming overtime. That has earned her the number one spot on Billboard’s Social 50 chart — not bad for someone who hasn’t released music in over a year. See her announcement after the jump. More »
It’s time for our quarterly round-up of raunchy pop diva pics! And, as usual, the leading ladies of music did not disappoint. In further proof that 2014 is the year of the nude, it was almost an embarrassment of the riches with everyone from 19-year-old newcomer Niykee Heaton to 56-year-old pop legend Madonna losing their clothes in the name of self expression/free publicity.
The usual candidates are all represented. Outtakes from Rihanna‘s iconic Lui magazine shoot surfaced online and got everyone clicking, while Miley Cyrus‘ Instagram account remains a valid alternative to PornHub. Honorable mentions go to Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea for proving that rap divas do it better. Peruse the (semi-NSFW) gallery up top. More »
Selena Gomez set Instagram on fire earlier this week when she posted pics from a photo shoot with Aris Jerome. The 22-year-old modeled a revealing, lace-up bodysuit in the sexy black-and-white images, which showcase her killer curves and growing confidence. Today (October 22), the photographer posted more snaps from his session with Sel and they are just as striking.
One new portrait finds the Stars Dance diva rocking tiny denim shorts and a purple tank top. In other pics, Selena wears the same eye-popping bodysuit. The general consensus is that the former teen queen has never looked better. It will be interesting to see if this is the first hint of what to expect from her new era at Interscope Records.
