looks happy and healthy in a new Instagram post, and she used the forum to thank her fans for their support during this rough patch, which included a quick rehab stint. “I’ve done everything I could to the best of my ability,” she wrote, without specifically mentioning rehab. “Thank you for the unconditional love and cyber hugs. You inspire me.”
While Gomez hasn’t revealed any details of her treatment, you’ll notice in the photo she’s holding what appears to be a glass of red wine, which supports her rep’s statement that she was getting treatment unrelated to substance abuse. Billboard spoke to a source saying she’s merely “burnt out after a relentless year of back-to-back films, concerts, TV, touring and all the promotional work that goes along with it.”
Better that she get some peace of mind than become another casualty of the child-star meat grinder. See her Instagram post below. More »
Call it the Curse Of The Bieber
. Selena Gomez
quietly completed a two-week stint in rehab last month, reportedly for “emotional issues.” A rep for the star confirmed to RadarOnline
that “Selena voluntarily spent time at [The Meadows recovery facility in Arizona] but not for substance abuse.” Predictably, though, rumors are flying that the real reason for her treatment related to alcohol and prescription pill abuse. Meanwhile, TMZ claims
Gomez is blaming Bieber for her descent. More »
Selena Gomez cancelled
her Stars Dance tour
to take stock of her life but, happily, seems to have found herself — at the Sundance film festival in Utah, to be exact. Sel appears in William H. Macy
‘s directorial debut (a musical called Rudderless
), which screened at the prestigious event. She attended the premiere and even blessed the after-party with an acoustic set.
The “Slow Down” diva performed a couple of songs with singer/songwriter Ben Kweller. A stripped back rendition of summer smash “Come & Get It” delighted guests but the highlight was a new folk track — potentially from the film’s soundtrack — that shows the 21-year-old in a completely different light. takes over the March issue of Seventeen
magazine — posing for three different covers. The “Slow Down”
diva rocks a different colored t-shirt for each cover emblazoned with words like “dream”, “brave” and “confident”. As usual, Sel is pushing a feel-good message and manages to look absolutely adorable in the process.
As for the cover story, the 21-year-old opens up about female pop stars and her inferiority complex. Selena expresses her support for Lorde, who had some unkind things to say about “Come & Get It”, saying: “I’m going to support her whether she likes me or not because I think she’s doing great things.” Sel also remains hopeful that their feud will end. “Someday I will see her and we’ll be cool.” More »
Every January, with the Oscars around the corner, when Hollywood’s power players are patting each other on the back for another year of hard-hitting entertainment, the Razzies swoop in to take the wind out of their sails by announcing nominations for the worst of Hollywood’s past year. The 34th annual Golden Raspberry Awards have announced the latest crop of “honorees,” and a few big music stars were targeted for their apparently subpar acting skills, including Lady Gaga
, Selena Gomez
and Chris Brown
Gomez was nominated for Worst Actress for her role in Getaway and Gaga snagged a Worst Supporting Actress nod for her turn as La Chameleon in Machete Kills (Rihanna took home that prize for Battleship in 2013). Meanwhile, Breezy got a Worst Supporting Actor nom for his Battle Of The Year role. I have not seen any of these movies, so I can’t say whether these slights are justified. But they probably are. Typically, a new year inspires people to change (or try, at least
). Instead, Justin Bieber
returned to a few familiar places.
He posed for Instagram next to Kid Cudi in the studio (above), following earlier claims that he plans to retire. (Toronto producer Douglas Romanow even posted a similar snapshot just days prior, as proof that his retirement rumors are “greatly exaggerated.”) Then for another photo, he stares straight ahead as ex-girlfriend (and all-around Idolator favorite) Selena Gomez wraps her arms around him. The caption? “Love the way you look at me.” The former couple last reunited over the summer, although among interviews and songs where they talk of moving on.

Selena Gomez canceled
the Australian leg of her Stars Dance
world tour two weeks ago in order to, according to a statement she released, “spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.” But Pop Dust reports
the possibility that the move is a consequence of Sel’s struggle with lupus, an autoimmune disease that can affect many different parts of the body, including the lungs. Gomez has neither confirmed nor denied the reports, but according to sources close to her camp, the star has “suffered multiple ‘flares’ recently, causing facial swelling, extreme fatigue, headaches and joint pain.” More »
has cancelled the Australian leg of her excellent Stars Dance
tour — wait for it — in order to find herself. I’ve heard a lot of excuses for poor ticket sales over the years but this is definitely the most creative. “My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them,” the 21-year-old said in a statement.
“But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologise and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me.”
Australia is a tough market for pop acts (just ask Ke$ha and Pitbull), so her inability to sell out arenas is nothing to be ashamed of. But her excuse is worrying. The “Slow Down” diva was extremely out of sorts at Jingle Ball, is yet to release a third single from Stars Dance despite coming off another huge radio hit and now decides she needs to take time out to reevaluate her life. What’s going on? More »
When historians discuss 2013 fifty years from now the major talking points will no doubt be Beyonce
‘s stealth album
, Miley Cyrus 2.0
and the proliferation of public (and very messy) beefs. Instead of picking up the phone or — holding their tongue — our favorite pop stars used social media to air their dirty laundry.
While shade throwing and open letters (hello Sinead O’Connor!) can be hugely entertaining, most of these encounters have ended badly. Just look at Azealia Banks, who could well be the first person to commit career suicide by Twitter. See the year’s 10 most memorable beefs after the jump. More »
