Did You Hear?

:: Selena Gomez revealed in a recent interview with Saturday Night Online that she had trouble recording the Stars Dance tracks “Love Will Remember” and “Forget Forever” because of their emotional subject matter tied to her break up with Justin Bieber.  “Obviously, ‘Love Will Remember’ is a personal song to me and I don’t really need to say anything,” she said in the interview, ultimately concluded that “it was really liberating” to record the tracks. :: Apparently the “Applause” vs. “Roar” showdown isn’t the first time Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have squared off against each other. [Socialite Life]

:: Simon Cowell put on his dad pants for a hot minute during an interview with Skype regarding One Direction’s new album, where he revealed the boys will be writing some of their own material: “A lot of the tracks have been written by the guys this year and I’m always kind of nervous about that,” Cowell said, but immediately followed up with rare words of encouragement, “But I have to tell you, their writing is absolutely brilliant.” [Sugarscape]

:: After Prince’s glorious debut on Twitter last week reminded all of us how much we missed him, he goes ahead and drops the absolutely, mind-blowingly awesome cover art for “Breakfast Can Wait” featuring Dave Chappelle dressed as The Purple One serving pancakes, from those amazing Charlie Murphy sketches on Chappelle’s Show. Simon Cowell Talks Season 3 Of The X Factor: What To Expect

Ah, what’s that in the air? The smell of change coming to The X Factor for the talent competition’s upcoming third season? Yes, yes, that’s it. And when Simon Cowell led a panel at the Television Critics’ Association to discuss the show, he had plenty to say about what to expect next year — aside from what we already know (that Britney Spears and L.A. Reid have been replaced by Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio). As it turns out, Britney’s absurdly high salary wasn’t the only reason that she’s not returning for this round.

“It’s like having a dinner party,” he explained. “You invite people for dinner — and sometimes it’s fun and sometimes it’s not as fun as you thought it was going to be.” Yikes. More »

Did You Hear?

:: In other, less controversial news, American Idol season eight winner Kris Allen has just welcomed his first child with his wife  and high school sweetheart Katy O’Connell. The singer shared the big news to his fans on Twitter and Instagram. Congrats! [E! Online]

:: The opening night of Drake‘s OVO Fest has been cancelled due to headliner Frank Ocean‘s vocal cord injury. The singer has also cancelled his Australian tour dates. Tickets for the festival will be refunded. [Billboard]

:: Rihanna has won her lawsuit with Topshop, over the UK retailer using a candid photo of singer’s face from the “We Found Love” video shoot on a t-shirt without her permission. A judge explained it was “damaging to her goodwill and could affect her ability to control her reputation in the fashion sphere.” [NME]

‘The X Factor’ Judges Crown Fifth Harmony As The Next Major Girl Group: Watch

XFactor-Interview
Fifth Harmony: The Next Generation
Fifth Harmony have kicked off their career on a high note after their 2012 showing on The X Factor, and the judges certainly seem to agree: Kelly Rowland, Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio sat down for the first interview for the show’s third season in Charleston, S.C., and since the panel is all about girl power, it was only natural that the hotly tipped girl group would creep into the conversation.

Cowell said, “I loved Tate and I think he was a great winner, but I have a hunch that the real winners from last season are Fifth Harmony.” He continued, “In particular, there hasn’t been a successful girl band for a long time and I’m feeling something, I’m sensing something from this group.” More »

Simon Cowell Gets Egged During ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Finale: Watch

On Saturday, Simon Cowell posed a question to his Twitter followers: “I don’t think eggs should be allowed on talent shows. Discuss?” Earlier, during the Britain’s Got Talent finale, a woman ran onto the stage and threw eggs at Cowell before she was escorted off stage.

The woman, violist Natalie Holt, appeared on Britain’s Got Talent with the Raven Quartet in 2012. She had interrupted Welsh opera singers Richard and Adam Johnson‘s performance of “The Impossible Dream,” so when she released a statement on her latest Talent appearance, she addressed the Johnsons directly.

“I want to apologize to Richard and Adam for overshadowing their performance,” she said, according to the Daily Mail. “I’ve never done anything like this before and in hindsight I have realized it was a silly thing to do.” Watch Cowell get egged after the jump. More »

Fifth Harmony Sound Off On Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears & More In ‘Pop Associated’

Fifth Harmony Pop Associated
All The Gossip
When Fifth Harmony stopped by our studio last week to perform flaw-free renditions of Taylor Swift‘s “Red” and Ed Sheeran‘s “Lego House,” we couldn’t let them leave without getting their thoughts on a few of their musical mentors and idols through a game of Pop Associated — especially since, although they’ve only just begun in their careers, the girls have already worked with some of the industry’s biggest names on The X Factor.

Bubbly as ever, the rambunctious pop quintet took turns sharing the first things that popped in their heads when it comes to their coach Simon Cowell, as well as judges Demi Lovato and Britney Spears — and it’s particularly endearing seeing Lauren Jauregui fangirls out over musical idol Lana Del ReyMore »

Demi Lovato Puckers Up With The New ‘X Factor’ Judges: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Looks like Demi Lovato is excited for The X Factor‘s return! The pop star posted the above selfie with fellow judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio in Charleston, SC at the first round of auditions. Demi tweeted: “LOVE THESE GIRLS!!! @KELLYROWLAND & @paurubio #Xfactor #girlpower.” [MTV]

:: Speaking of The X Factor, the show’s accountants are probably breathing a sigh of relief after Britney Spears‘ departure. Simon Cowell saved a lot of money with new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio, who will be receiving about $1.5 million, compared to Spears’ massive check of $15 million. [The Hollywood Reporter]

:: Giorgio Moroder, one of the OGs of  electronic music, has made a return partly thanks to his feature on Daft Punk‘s Random Access Memories. Our friends at SPIN spoke to the legend and looked back on his extensive career. [SPIN]

:: In the wake of his state’s massive tornado tragedy, Oklahoman Blake Shelton is organizing an NBC benefit concert for the victims. The country singer, who recently performed a tribute to his home state on The Voice, said he’s “hoping it will raise a lot of money. Obviously it will be televised and will happen really quickly.” [Billboard]

:: Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong, who called PSY “the herpes of music,” won’t like this news. The South Korean entertainer is planning to follow up “Gangnam Style” and “Gentleman” with a full album to be released this summer. [MTV]

:: Justin Bieber will give people more reasons to boo, after TMZ got hold of his ridiculous release agreement. The singer forces invited guests to sign the document, which orders them to keep their mouths shut about his parties. If guests reveal anything, they’ll be sued for a cool $5 million. What happens in Bieber’s crib, stays in Bieber’s crib. [TMZ]

‘The X Factor’ Season 3 New Judges Confirmed: Kelly Rowland & Paulina Rubio

Well! After all that speculation, our Season 3 judges for The X Factor have been unveiled — and there were some unexpected choices! (Well, one unexpected choice. Kelly Rowland had already been revealed, sort of.) The final judging panel will include Rowland alongside returning judges Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato, as well as Latin superstar Paulina Rubio.

It’s been a bumpy ride for The X Factor: Season 1 saw the more-or-less incoherent Paula Abdul team up with the hugely unlikable Nicole Scherzinger and the authoritative-but-not-particularly-great-television L.A. Reid, resulting in mediocre ratings; Season 2 brought out the big guns with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato replacing Abdul and Scherzinger, but not even Spears could save the show’s ratings. Now, it seems, Cowell’s going for interesting characters: Lovato has proven her mettle as a capable and empathetic judge with a lot of insight to share, while Rowland already has experience judging The X Factor in the UK (where she proved to have a ton of character), and Rubio — while a lesser-known commodity in the United States — is enormous in Latin America and has been a judge on The Voice in Mexico.  More »

Justin Bieber Won’t Be Charged After Bus Raid In Sweden: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: The Swedish police are not going to question or charge Justin Bieber after raiding his tour bus and finding marijuana and a stun gun. The case will be closed. Their explanation: no one was on the bus when they searched it, so there’s no way to prove who was in possession of the paraphernalia, or how long the stuff had been on the bus. A rare lucky break for the Biebs! [Celebuzz]

:: 2 Chainz is also off the hook from marijuana charges. He was cited for possession after being pulled over in Maryland a couple months ago, but agreeably posed for a picture with the arresting officers. Whether or not this had anything to do with the ruling that came down today (not enough evidence to prove the weed belonged to him), we can’t be sure. It couldn’t have hurt though, right? [TMZ]

:: Daft Punk‘s new song “Get Lucky” has been getting a lot of remixes on the Internet ever since the first preview of the song was released a few weeks ago. The most recent one is an 8-bit remix, and it’s worth your two minutes. [SPIN]

:: The US version of The X Factor is doing some serious revamping: Khloe Kardashian, Britney Spears and LA Reid are not returning to the show next season. Simon Cowell has confirmed that the show is in serious talks to bring Jennifer Love Hewitt on as a judge. She would join Simon and Demi Lovato on the panel. Also rumored to be in the mix is Kelly Rowland.  [WENN]
