OK, so N.A.S.A. actually stands for North America/South America, and the project from Squeak E. Clean (Spike Jonze’s brother; you may also remember him as the guy who created the Karen O song for that Adidas ad) and DJ Zegon certainly has transcontinental goals. Its track listing reads like a lineup card for the Hype Machine Vs. Elbo.ws All-Star Internet Music Blog-Off (Tom Waits! The RZA! Lykke Li!), and the latest song to leak from the album, “Whachadoin,” is more proof of that, what with it featuring M.I.A. and Santogold and Spank Rock and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner. So you have a “banger” beat and M.I.A. shouting, and Spank Rock being filthy, and Santogold… in there somewhere. If anything, it brings to mind the Converse ad where Santogold, Julian Casablancas, and Pharrell do their own schtick without ever cohering. I guess the endless remix culture perpetuated by blogs (LIKE THIS ONE) had to come to a point where the songs were already pre-chewed-up-and-spit-out for people, right? The two pictures above will probably clue you in as to what bracket in our Worst Album Cover Of The Year Tournament is being featured today. And the covers themselves are pretty much self-explanatory, although I suspect that the Nuge is going to beat the Bangers & Cash cover by a mile thanks to its slam-you-over-the-noggin humorlessness and the fact that so many of our commenters think that the B&C cover should be voted “so best.” But what I want to know is this: Does posting this double-whammy give me license to put up a bunch of videos by Bratmobile and Tiger Trap later this afternoon? It’s either that or a lye shower as far as washing the “ugh” off me goes.
Today’s second entry in our Anatomically Incorrect bracket pits Celine Dion’s twisty torso/lion’s-mane/shark-eyes combo against Spank Rock and Benny Blanco’s love of a greased-up rump. (If nothing else, the cover of Bangers And Cash more than makes up for Celine’s definite lack of ass.) Decide between skeletally creepy or slimily bootylicious after the jump!
